We all know the Gatso cameras'a catch you from behind just like any other cowardly bastard hiding in tree's, but what about average speed camera's in road works for example as they seem to be only interested in front number plates, I've seen a good few bikes zoom through these with-out a worry, are they right? 50? yeh, right!!!
The myth was that they were never active but I do know car drivers that have been done by them. I have also seen some average speed cameras facing the direction the traffic is travelling in, not many but I think you will find that increasing
Have you noticed the idiot drivers racing between the cameras then braking when they reach the next. What do they not understand Average speed over a certain area.
Mostly forward facing but there are a few rear facing one's about. Tbh I just knock my speed back a bit it doesn't put that much time onto your journey.
Rear facing on M3 and they work 50mph The A40 going into and out of london now fully working with no leeway M4 will be the same soon from services into london
met one on the a9 a few months back, I looked up and thought o whats that then rode along wondering, when it hit me I pulled over had a fag and tryed to remember my old school lessons;- speed equals distance over time, it made my head hurt.
The average speed cams in roadworks are nearly all SPECS ones like this. http://www.speedcamerasuk.com/specs.htm They are forward facing so can be ignored happily on a bike. On managed motorways with variable limits the newest ones are HADECS3 which are rear facing and harder to spot. Ignore these at your peril. http://www.speedcamerasuk.com/hadecs-3.htm
