Ey Up everyone, I've been eying up bikes ready for the spring and I had my heart set on a Bonneville (purely because of looks!) I went and sat on a couple t'Other day and found myself drawn to a Speedmaster! One minute with that bike and I was in love! I've been trawling eBay and autotrader and have identified a couple of bikes and then spotted an America, gorgeous looking bike but looking almost identical to the speedmaster? What's the difference? They are both roughly the same condition and price, both 61 plates with less than 1000 miles on the clock. Which in your experience is better and why? (Had to postpone the tests due to a broken hand!)
The are very similar bikes, the main cosmetic difference being that the America has more chrome than the Speedmaster. Speedmaster did have twin discs up front but latest models only have one i believe, just like the America. They also have different seats, wheels & location of front indicators from what i can remember. The Speedmaster has a rev counter in the fuel tank binnacle where as the America didnt, but can be purchased separately from Triumph, 5 minute job to fit. There are probably a few other little differences but nothing major. Frame, forks, engine & gearbox are identical across the two models. Other than that, from what i can remember the Speedmaster has straighter handlebars with taller risers than the America, which alters the riding position so you might want to try both bikes for size & comfort.
Just found this on the internet.... 2011 Triumph Speedmaster and America - Motorbikes Reviews, News & Advice - bikepoint.com.au Hope this helps

Don't worry about these 2 Big Dave, They think the moon is a Balloon and each of them gets confused if 2 people they know well have exchanged coats. Welcome here. America is the better bike by a mile to answer your question. Al.
