I’d like to draw on the collective brain and garner opinion on a question of etiquette when riding through a town
Today as I rode into Tunbridge Wells I found myself behind a hearse travelling at 15mph. I followed said hearse for about three miles all the way through town and out the other side until it turned off to the crem. Should I have overtaken it or not??

Unless it was this hearse then you did what any decent person would do.

No overtake on the back wheel only. Good on you doing the right thing.

You did the right thing Nick.
At my MILs funeral, we’d just set off from home in the funeral cars when a boy racer in a Corsa with his music blaring overtook the cortège and it became the topic of conversation among everyone at the wake. Sooo disrespectful!

Very much the right thing to do, when I was a kid if a cortège passed men used to stop remove their hats and bow their heads as a sign of respect. Times change but now and again I still find myself giving a respectful nod

I live in Tunbridge Wells....it's no disgrace to get out of here as fast as you can.
It might not have been a hearse...maybe just a range rover driven at the usual place round here.

    Right thing to do, definitely.
My Mrs is from Enniskillen and over there they are way more respectful of funeral processions. Members of the public will mostly stop what they are doing as it passes, many will stand to the curb and bow their heads. When her parents died I was one of the pallbearers and we carried the coffin out of the church and about 50m down the high street stopping everything and no-one batted an eyelid.

Yes, they have a different attitude over there, the Irish also favour burial over cremation in my experience.

Yes they do, and you're also in the ground just a few days after you pop your clogs.
