Hi, Been offered a 2003 955i speed triple. Low miles FSh . My question is, never had one before and are they everyday bikes for commuting ,touring around etc. needs rear foot pegs. Are these expensive? What do I need to look out for on them? Cheers .
Well only you can decide if this bike turns on your "want" gland. They are a super bike and a hoot to ride, but like with any mechanical thing they need looking after, so at 10 years old I would want to see plenty of paper evidence that the bike has been serviced regularly. Specific things to look out for: 1. Condition of tyres - new? Nearly new or shagged? A new set of rubber will be roughly £250 so budget for that. 2. Chain and sprockets - ditto; 3. Colour, level and feel of engine oil; 4. Condition of brake parts - do the callipers and pads look clean? Does the brake fluid look new et at correct level? And do they work properly? 5. Does the bike start easily from cold? Does it run cleanly? Does the battery sound strong? 6. Do all the lights work correctly? 7. Does the coolant look new/at the correct level? 8. Check suspension for operations/settings and wear; 9. Check steering for smooth operation and wear; There's a starter for 10
Oops....I didn't look at the date! . What a donut! (I think I get a little over excited whenever I see "955" in the post)!
