How do I let my new scrambler breathe ? It struggles to pull after about 80mph. My old xs650 is much quicker. I have ran the bike in and its had its first service (oil and filter change £160 )
£160 quid for oil and filter change is enough to make anybody choke, joking aside , exhaust, air box, ECU, emissions removal, all these thing are the normal root, but you have to think about your Triumph warranty . Also it maybe run in but at that mileage the engine is still tight, also take into account it's a scrambler, I don't know if the gearing is lower or not. Hi there, as far as I know a 2017 Scrambler is mechanically identical to the Speed Twin, it just has different 'clothes'. How many miles has your Scrambler done ? If it's only about a 1000 mls and if you broke it in, as per the book (gently) then now is the time to start giving it some proper work to do. I can't remember if the new Scrambler has a rev counter but what the bike needs - imho - is hard work; lots of revs and lots of short bouts of full throttle. So for example on your most favorite twisty de-restricted road, stay in 3rd and 4th and use big handfuls of throttle. You want that puppy to really work so it opens up. They don't deliver their best until perhaps 5-8000 mls even with the running-in regime as above. After that would be the time (imo) to look at modifying the motor to make it go better.

Thanks for your advice. I did wonder if it would slowly improve as I put more miles on it. I hope so. I'll see how it goes over the summer and decide what to do then. Ill keep looking for information about modifying it though so I know whats involved. Cheers
If it's the new Street Scrambler, third and fourth have plenty of go in them on the twisties. Give the engine time to settle in and you'll learn how to get the most out of it. Same as you at first I thought it ran out of breath around 80mph. I have to change riding style when swapping between my 865i Bonnie and the Street Twin, which has the same engine as the SC.
Hi 66, keep an eye on your fuel economy, when it starts to really improve then your engine is run in !! I have a fuel injected 09 America, new it did 7 klms litre for the first 200 klms over the next 500 KLM it improved to 10/11 klms litre, by the time it had 1500 KLM on the clock it had upped to 16/17 KLM litre, when it hit 20 KLM litre I had 4/5'000 klms on the clock ! I now have over 100,000 KLM up and fuel economy is 19/20 KLM litre if ridden sensibly doesn't go below 17 KLM litre even when two up and towing my camper trailer ! Modern engines are very Tight ! Hence Nikasil plating to make the rings and bore last, because without it the engine wouldn't last 6 month's. Cheers capt.

Glad of the comment cos I am a little underwhelmed by my 017 street twin ( 950 miles on clock) at the upper reaches as well. Hopefully I can look forward to improvement as it beds in. Ta!
Hi Pensioner D, Yes they take a while to bed down. Do some long rides, use full throttle once engine is hot , for short bursts, you will feel it once the Engine has Awoken and Bedded in !!
