Should get my bike soon i asked craigs honda to overhaul the rear end during the service and fit r&g bungs to the engine once i get some money up i will do the other bits.. Any idea why triumph dont attend to the rear end during services and how often do you guys pull it apart. Also did triumph address the electrical issues at the head stock, spark plug water problem and rectifier etc in the 2009 model mine has a fender extender and hugger so might keep water away from electrics. I imagine the annual service incorporates spark plug removal/replacement so no siezed in plugs i hope. I am a mechanic so i will attack the bike when i get it and try and prevent future problems but anything i have missed please let me know.
I too recently bought a 09 Speedy with 13k miles on it. Had to rebuild the entire rear linkage and sort out seized chain eccentric adjuster. Exactly the same thing happened to my Sprint 1050. They seem to assemble the linkage without grease, and the drain hole in the bottom of the swingarm seems to be a two way hole allowing water and dirt in.Even if the chain tension is correct you need to move the eccentric regularly to spread the grease and keep it free. If the clamp is still on the rhs of the headstock , common wisdom is take it off before the wires get damaged. Dunno about rec /reg issues with 09s, surely they have been sorted?
Hopefully the company took my request seriously mine has 14k full service history and if yours was bad then i must presume mine also i will speak with them before delivery then..inspect on delivery but craigs honda have a good reputation.
