Just got this from TEC. Had one on my T100 - reduces revs by around 300rpm, better for cruising at motorway speeds. Will be fitted this weekend.
I had a 19T on my T100 as well. As Steve says you lose about 300rpm for a given speed plus the speedo (if it's a gearbox driven one) reads absolutely spot-on accurate, instead of being a bit 'optimistic'.
Also on my to do list. Enough torque on the Bonnie so relax and lower the revs. Mmay increase MPG? depends I spose.
May increase mpg but whether that would be enough to notice remains to be seen. Will be interesting to see the difference the rev reduction makes on this bike. My T100 was a 2004 model with carbs and revved higher than the EFI model - it definitely felt as if it needed a 6th gear but the SE is more relaxed to begin with.
Looking forward to a follow up as my 2014 thruxton desperately needs a 6th gear. A modification that is on my list to do
Wonder how much a tooth on the front takes up on the chain? It's a nice idea for getting an accurate speed reading although I'm comfortable with the original gearing in them hills o' mine.
All done. Easy job but you will need a 36mm socket. Bend back the washer to remove the nut and remember to bend it back in place when you refit the new sprocket. Here's the new 19 tooth on. Hopefully road test tomorrow !
Amazed that they are still using that type of locking washer - It takes me back too many years to remember. But if it works, why change it
Hi Steve, I have changed chains and sprockets on my Triumphs, being 94 trident,00 sprint and 08 America, all had 36mm nut on the front sprocket output shaft, me thinks I see a commonality here and some forward planning by Triumph !! I'm thinking this might be common on all chain driven Triumph motorcycle's ? Cheers capt.
No chance to test yesterday as we had freezing fog. Better today but roads still wet but went for it anyway. First impressions: The reduction in rpm is not as noticeable on the rev counter as it will be on the 790cc Bonnies because with them, the speedo is a cable drive off the front wheel. The later EFI bikes have a speed sensor off the gearbox so the change of sprocket does change the speedo reading - makes it accurate I believe. As such the visual difference is not very much - just can't quite match 70mph with 4000 rpm. Didn't feel as if it affected acceleration in the lower range at all but overall it did feel like it wasn't working quite as hard as before but I think I need to put a good few more miles on it yet to pass proper judgement.
Anyone know where I can get a 520 pitch 19 tooth from, fancy giving it a try but the Newchurch is non std!
