1050 dipstick

    Why is the oil dipstick so rubbish in the 1050's

    It seems really hard to get a level from it as the level range is so small and its hard to tell where the oil is at alot of the time

    Is it just me ?

    So long as its on the hatched area at the bottom its fine although its probably easier done with another person holding the bike upright on the balance point.
    Triumph saw sense when they built the Tiger 800 engine I now have, its got a slight glass.

    It's not just you. I made a very similar post just a little while ago. I just find a wall on a flat area and lean handle bar against it just before balance point and do it that way. Warm bike up, kill engine, leave to settle then test.

    I took a look at the oil level this morning, I had a hard time getting the dipstick out as it is right tucked in, between the engine case and the frame.
    Anyhow, got the stick out wiped it off, screwed it back in, removed it and it was dry! Realised it was on the side stand, so screwed it in, tilted the bike upright for about 15 secs then back to side stand, removed stick and it was a bout 3mm above the hashed area!

    Should I be worried, I just picked it up yesterday and the dealer said they checked all this. I wonder if they just topped it up and didn't change the oil, or if it is the same oil from the 2,500 miles (1 year ago) service.

    I have ordered the rear paddock stand so as soon as this comes in, I will replace the filter and oil, I think for a complete change I may well change the coolant too, just so I know it is done, (or at least done right)
    How easy is it to get to the air filter under the tank, I will have to watch more YouTube videos or wait for the Haynes manual to come through first.

    Chain is currently bathed in WD40 Chain Wax as it was crusty as hell, but again, only 2,500 miles old

    I used to buy from dealers but not anymore so many pull the wool over buyers eyes with ...
    Yes sir we checked it all over everything is in tip top condition ... Yea right
    They just want your money
