09 ST just under 5k on it.

    2 questions...

When shifting just seems loud and clunky... is this normal?? All seems solid otherwise.

Also an annoying loud whining/higher pitch sound. Consistent with the throttle not wind related.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

    Welcome, Tim.
Try an oil & filter change, using a good quality motorcycle specific oil. Some oils are better than others regarding clutch and gearbox operation - my '95 Trident hates Shell fully synthetic oil but loves Motul semi synthetic! At 5,000 miles the gearbox may yet still be a bit tight.
The whine? Not a clue!! Could even be normal.

clunky gears... hmm oil change and slight clutch adjustment ??... you never know what oil is in there when you buy the beasts so get it changed
whine... there is quite an induction howl on the engine that comes as standard I'm wondering if this is what you are hearing
Take it out for a good long run and get it run in... under 5K and the engine will still be tight

This is a good bike...congrats! A good Motul 7100 20w50 and some more miles will solve the problem.
