i think the rider must have been a courier, he did a pretty good job filtering with those panniers on!
Different vehicles have different qualities, air brakes are fantastic on lorries and busses, only they are huge and will crush you, bikes can stop quicker than most cars, good job cos if you hit something your squashed. Bigger vehicles need to disregard some lanes, white lines and are risk assessed and told to do so. Cars contain old farts doing 35 mph, bicycles in the fing dark, Horses ffs. All on the road at the same time, try to legislate that then. The sentences past must all fit within the guidelines or the would not be handed down. All of these defendants knew that pretty well before they set off ,and all of them are men. We are preprogrammed to take risks ( since we jumped off heights as kids, remember) so risks we take. Bugs me that the cop chasing you gets, all the fun, a Hayabusa and a pat on the back.
Exactly. And any sensible driver should think of all the likely what-ifs and adjust their speed accordingly. Certainly a good deal lower than 149mph on a single carriage way.
Awesome chase Rooster, to be honest I found it difficult to watch at times it was that dangerous (christ I'm getting old) Fecking two's up as well
A lot of us would never ride again if you did a comprehensive risk assessment. Looking at statistics of all ages involved in biking accidents does not make for good reading. I am not condoning the speed, I am just stating that the sentence was too harsh in my opinion. There are a lot worse crimes committed than speeding where custodial sentences are not handed out.
i was merely commenting on his filtering i think the cops here would have given up after a few minutes, even if the panniers were stuffed full of the crown jewels
This is an interesting change in how Speeding fines will be calculated from April. https://smidsyuk.wordpress.com/2017/02/06/speeding-revised-2017/ The more you are worth - the more you pay.
So for the same offence, some wee twat on the dole pays bugger all, and just cos I earn a decent whack, I stung for hundreds!!!! That's sounds about right. Glad I dragged my arse through uni, wouldn't like to get any favours for putting time and effort in.
I know this section of the A95 very well. It is a very big road in places with long straights and very few danger points. If there's anywhere around there where silly speeds are as safe as they can be, it is on this stretch road. The law says 60mph but if the conditions are good and there's no traffic, irrespective of what the law says the road is capable of way more. Whether it's wise to do so is debatable? The sentence: As far as I'm concerned it is completely out of order. Sure 149 in a 60 is way over the limit and there has to be consequences if your caught. Ban him - yes, big fine - yes, but jailing him beggars belief. The village where I have lived for over 20 years regularly has boy racers ride through the village, crossing pedestrian crossings, past schools etc.. as fast as their scoobys and other cars can go. In my mind doing 70+mph in a 30mph where the risk of innocent people getting hurt is infinitely more deserving of harsh treatment than what this guy did. In all the time I've lived here I've never seen the police do anything to put a stop to it. Bike theft has effectively been decriminalised in Scotland and the thieving low life that steal bikes don't worry about the police or getting jail time because the police don't do anything. If the guy in question made a mistake it was riding with a number plate on a bike that he very likely owned and very likely was fully legal on. He also very likely pays taxes and for all intents and purposes would probably, normally be a law abiding person. If he had stolen the bike and thrashed it through a city centre there would most likely be no consequences. As far as I'm concerned this is just another easy bust for Police Scotland and will help them justify their obsession with extorting cash from less high profile road users. It would be nice if they and the courts occasionally did something about the crime that affects people on a daily basis.
Like the courts, you too forget, I like everyone else who's bought a house in the last 10 years, have a feckin humongous mortgage, so I will be drinking buckfast from a paper bag, on the park. You may join me, always happy to share the electric soup with a pal Please see the rich folk in the hotel, am sure they'll run a tab for us all ????
I'm all for means tested fines, like the Swiss do. A £1000 fine to a multi-millionaire is still pocket change from the back of the sofa in his Monaco pad, whereas a £100 fine to a bloke on minimum wage is still a month's beer money.
Correct Ade and by the looks of Mr O's previous post about coming to the hotel for us poor residents to pay for his drinks, he wants even more Shame on him does he have no conscience
Well now I think Mr. O has a point there. It would be a nice kind gesture if the monied gentry i.e. those staying in the hotel, put on a 5 course meal with free beer for us poor have-nots from the bunkhouse. It would give the have-alls a nice warm feeling in their hearts that they have helped the less fortunate in our society.
Sorry to dissapoint but i think you have got it the wrong way round,Just think of all the money you skinflints have saved by booking into the bunkhouse you can treat us as we have spent all our hard earned cash by making sure there is plenty of room for all the snorers and farters in the bunkhouse..i think a meal and free drinks all night is the very least we Samaritans deserve
