Good evening all, At the moment I have just started looking at Tiger explorers but was wondering what the 800 is like for 2 up touring, I am not going around Europe on one more around Scotland/Wales etc ......the bulk of my riding is solo but with luggage and camping gear.
Obviously you need to try both, but the 800 is more than powerful enough to do 2-up touring, in my opinion. PLus it's a lot lighter than the Explorer. Tiger 800XRx : 197 kgs dry Explorer XRx : 246 kgs dry
Thanks guys I do plan on taking both flavours out for a test but that can often be quite different to riding a few hundred miles loaded up, I really like the idea of shaft drive but as has been said it's a lot heavier than the 800
Haha I've actually looked at ze GS a bit spendy though ....and me being me it would have to be a newer water cooled one so not cheap.
Just had another look at a couple that I had a look at a while ago and they've reduced the price so that could now be an option ......lots of test rides coming up
A friend of mine had an 800 Tiger that he said was the "Holy Grail". But when his wife started going on the back it did struggle a bit. He's like a bean pole and his Mrs isn't what you'd call enormous. He did find the suspention was probably on it's limit.Plenty of forward planning was required. He's got a GS-A now so all good
My mate has the Explorer, which he now regrets due to it's weight but he's had no complaints as to the comfort of the pillion passenger over moderate distances. I have the Tiger 800, which is brilliant, but my son (who is 6ft tall but slightly built) said he became uncomfortable after about 50 minutes on the back.
Thank you roadrider that description could apply to me and the wife .....when I was in the dealer as soon as I mentioned 2 up riding the guy steered me away from the 800.
I Vaz mearly pointing out ze story.I vaz not trying to influence da tommy. No slapping mit de vet fish this time den
Now listen here chaps.....we can't have johny foreigner coming in here and causing havoc......no no it just won't do you know
Don't listen to the propaganda from Herr Himmler, the GS is a horrible rusty ugly SOB. He's come on a Triumph Forum, he's realised Triumph are a superior brand and doesn't want people to snigger at him on his bike, thinking he's Ewan Or Charlie in his twatsuit !!!!
Have you thought about a Tiger Sport. A lot lighter that the T-Ex but with plenty of poke for 2 up,quite a few luggage options as well and road wheels which is always a bonus when it comes to tyre choice. I liked it,if it wasn't for the fact that I'd had 2 1050 engines before I'd have probably had one.
Lovely bike Yorkie, I had one out for a couple of hours last year and found it an excellent bike. And yours is BLUE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
