Long story short, and feel free to take the piss too. Kylie, my old faithful 125 I learned on, got dropped today. By me. On a small incline by side of my house, I put her on her side stand. Walked to house, opened door and heard the awful crash noises.bugger. Gear lever bent in. Indicator broke, left mirror smashed off, fairing scratched to buggery. Clutch lever bent in. My question, is it claimable? As I'm reasonably sure it'll be a cat d write off, I'm guessing I'd stand to get 500-600 or so after excess, and privately she was worth maybe 800 after haggling. Bike value 1400 on ins docs. I could get the parts for around 300 quid plus the decals for fairing. Never claimed, so no idea really. All thoughts are gratefully received. And the piss takes too.... Thank God it wasn't my d600, or I'd be in tears
Hi Vlad, if it were me I would keep Kylie (for many, many reasons) and repair her with 2nd hand parts. Have a look on Ebay. 125's are being dropped every day so you should have any difficulty finding the bits you need at sensible money.
Err.... She's a daelim. Korean. It would be easier to find an ounce of integrity in a politician than parts lol! They're available shipped in from Korea, but it's a ballache. She was going to be sold to get a little project or commuter hack anyway. So was thinking to cut the hassle out and get shut through insurance. But I shall look further into parts again, see what about.
To be honest fully comp ins and you would be within your rights to make a claim if that's the way you wanted to go, bearing in mind that it would have an effect on your premiums for a while, if that's not an issue for you then don't see any reason why you shouldn't Do unto them that they do to us YEARLY !!!
I think the fact that she's a Daelim may instigate the piss taking and not the fact that you dropped her!
Yeah fully comp. Only one yrs ncb. It's not much to insure at all so that wouldn't be an issue getting a new policy. And no, Steve. Well ok, yeah. BUT.... She's as fast as the yam 125, a third of the price and more comfortable. Honest.
if you are still looking for parts to fix the bike, give Jim a ring at C G Chells in Stafford. Tel 01785 524356. They have been importing Daelim and other bikes from both Korea and China for years. Hope this is of help. La Roca
No brainer for me, you want shot , if premium increase not a problem, Happy days so long as they write off of course !!! Also as littleade pointed out excess to take into account and effect on future policies
I asumme it won't effect my other policy at renewal time? that's got zero no claims..only passed das Dec 2015 and got doris April 2016. I know il have to declare on any new policy but planned on renewing doris's policy if price dropped enough. Sorry for all the questions, most probably repeated time and again. New to this.
To check likely effect on your future premiums, use GoCompare or some such, using a different browser and dif name for each scenario, one with the accident reported and the other not, but all other details as your own, and asking for quotes on bike you haven't yet bought (so no need to use reg. number).
Yeah I did mine in the centre of Matlock Bath, for those who don't know it's rammed with bikes in the summer, parked at the kerb amongst many other bikes, wife gets off, I get off and whoooooomph, forgot to put sidestand out. Bollox. Only a few scuffs on left engine case but clutch lever snapped leaving me about an inch left to ride home with. My left forearm looked like popeye's afterwards.
I'm afraid, Vlad, when you apply for insurance they ask if you have made any claims previously so you will have to inform them whichever vehicle you're insuring, plus they also say that if any of the info changes you have to inform them, so technically if you make a claim on one policy you should inform the other! Bummer to be sure but that's one of the many ways they screw us
Look on Web for Deeside breakers - Stuart the owner has tons of foreign 125 spares. As said before they get binned down the road daily. Hope this helps
It'll cost you more in the long run if you claim and you'll have to explain to insurance companies for 5 years giving them a reason to treat you like a piece of s**t.
Do not claim unless desperate!! Insurance company's computers do seem to have the ability to talk to each other - when it suits them! I had to declare a minor accident in my HGV. Once a claim is on file, that is where it stays for all to see. If you don't declare a claim then that becomes a good enough reason for your ins. co. to cancel your cover as soon as you need to make a subsequent claim yourself - and this is on any motor policy. If you do claim you risk your own premium(s) getting more expensive anyway. Just fix it as and when you can get the parts/money/time and save yourself a lot of hassle. Don't forget that you will probably still have to pay £100 or more excess anyway if you claim. Is it really worth it?
See...this is why I love you guys. a common consensus of like minded intelligent(?) individuals! I have a plan now. Fix Kylie to a rideable state, chuck doris in for 24k service and use Kylie for a month. Then put the fairings on and sell in April and say my fond farewells. Then I'll just have to wait another month for a project bike to learn on/play with. Cheers all, gents....the lot of you!
Be careful who you accuse of being intelligent in these here parts. Makes some of 'em go a bit giddy!!
