I think the number plate hanger on the new 2016 bike looks a lot nicer than the pressed steel thing on the older bikes. Anybody know if the new version will fit <2015 Speed Triples? Think I'll have a word with my local dealer next time I'm up there.
Never got to ask my local stealer (see above), but saw a couple of the new plate hangers on eBay at a reasonable price so thought I'd give it a go. Why? you ask? Well each to their own, but to my eyes most after market tail tidys are anything but tidy, often being a bit of crude bent metal exposing fasteners and wiring. Also I think indicators become less noticeable when too close to the rear light, and some pannier options won't work with a "tail tidy"....... So anyway...yes the new (2016>) number plate hanger can be made to fit earlier Speedy's, just wasn't quite as straight forward as I'd hoped though. Before - After -
No bike IMO has a nice hanger always change or adapt for a tidy... but if I'm right I think most tail tidys that tuck plate behind upright line of outside of rear wheel are illegal.... so I guess this way you keep it safe
It'd be boring if we all had the same tastes. Yep, manufacturers must provide "bodywork" to rear wheel, never heard of an owner being prosecuted for not complying though. Not my reason for avoiding them anyway, just not tidy IMHO
I have the pressed steel variety on the wasp, but have dressed it up with a CC carbon cover, which I think looks the mutts. Having said that, I quite like the new one you have fitted. Atb Bob
There is a practical consideration to plate hangers of coarse, they do tend to keep road crap of your back when the roads are wet....something the new version might not be so good at..... doh!
