There must be a way to either remove foam from the seat, get a second seat pad for a bobber, or lower the suspension in some way. If this is your first chance of a new bike and you want a Triumph don't give up. There will be some sort of specialist machining help you can get, what about some sort of tang welded to the Thunderbird sidestand?

 

Folks on triumphrat.net were discussing side stand mods. This side-stand extender which you can tailor the position got a thumbs up.

You are perfectly entitled to not like the Bobber. And 100% correct not to like the Bobber.

I was wondering if there is a low seat version of the Bonneville myself - there used to be before the revamp, I'm sure. Then I read PompeyMark's suggestion of the Street Twin. Not a 'cruiser', I know, but there will be/are lots of bits available (from Triumph and no doubt many others) to tailor it to your needs.

And yes, you are right to avoid the Honda 50. The power band once above 4,000 rpm is ferocious and not for the faint hearted!

 

I'm not too sure of the model line up just now but if you could get an Bonny SE with mag wheels, the one I have came with 17" wheels as opposed to the 19" spoked wheels, I'm 5'7" both feet fully on ground easily.

Nothing wrong with a last years model, even if going out of production normally means you can get it for a better price and maybe get some extras thrown in as well.

I spoke to sales guy recently that told me most cruiser styles are more for long legged peeps

 

Does it have to be a brand new bike?
Have a look for good, clean, low mileage recent Speedmasters / Americas.
I have a Speedmaster and due to having short legs, I've fitted a footpeg relocation kit (brings the foot pegs / controls 4" back) and a kickstand extender.
The bike is nice and comfortable for me now, really enjoy riding it.
