Just to let anyone know who's thinking of going to the 2017 Classic TT/ Manx GP that the Steam Packet Co (ferry) have this morning opened bookings for 2017. I know they've been taking deposit/bookings for the 2017 TT since May 2016. Just booked for myself and my carer from Thursday 24th August to Sunday 3rd September 2017 If you are going and you want a specific sailing get it booked soon as each year the number of visitors to the event is rising Dave.
Just tried booking to go, no joy! All ferries booked up. That's the trouble waiting for people to make their minds up.
Watch the Guy Martin documentary on riding a motor cycle on water. Wouldn't it be great riding past the ferries into dock.
Went last year and it was a great event. Found it was slightly cheaper putting both mine and the mrs's bike in my work Transit custom van and just bought the one van ferry ticket. We camped very comfortably as we took everything you could possibly need.
I always book the ferry as soon as the Steam Racket Company start accepting bookings, that's for the Southern 100 Pre TT Classic which also enables you to watch the TT evening practice sessions, the Southern 100 International and the Classic TT including the MGP. As an example we're paying £254.00 for 2 bikes and 2 riders departing Liverpool at 10.30 on 24th August returning 3rd Sept to Liverpool at 16.30 If you snooze you lose
I managed to get to the manx last year.Booked as soon as the tickets came out for the Classic this year and all of the hotels in Douglas were sold out immediately. Camped at union mills for the TT in 2013 great site and I would go again.Trouble is my wife won't do camping so we managed to book a hotel for next year's classic near the airport. ebay and Gumtree usually have tickets for sale as travellers plans inevitabley change closer to the event.

I booked my ferry for this year the morning they opened the booking on-line last May. It took me 3 hrs to do it. It takes ages to actually get a response from the booking page and then it crashed twice part way through my booking. By the time I booked all the Liverpool and Birkenhead ferrys were gone so I'm going from Heysham. My wife tried phone I got while I was online but all she got was the engaged tone.
I've never been, but is it possible to charter a small craft and share the cost ? I've known some of my mates charter a small aircraft in the past.
I believe the best way to get what you want is to go to the ticket office in either the IOM or Liverpool in person. Not very practical for me.
The Steam Packet start taking bookings during TT practice week and the ticket office in the IOM is at the ferry terminal. Not heard of them taking bookings at Liverpool or Heysham. There's a queue even before the office opens, people who are already there watching TT practice, appears to be more each year. I've known people queue for over 3 hours and not get the sailings or even days they want. It's a lottery I'm afraid.
