Thruxton Thruxton R headers discolouration

Can't do pics at the moment, but my Thruxton R l/h header has turned vivid blue, whilst the r/h has retained pretty much the same hue as it left the factory.

Any one else have this?

 

I wouldn't say vivid blue, but the l/hand is certainly different to the R/hand.

I read on another forum that some had them swapped under warranty, possible cause is lack of proper cleaning prior to first start as they use some form of anti corrosion coating.
I intend to ask my dealers opinion when my bike goes in for its fuel leak issue

 

This is very common / normal for bluing of exhaust headers. It is due to the Air Injection system (part of anti pollution parts) to create an after-burn in the headers to reduce the possibility of unburnt fuel reaching the cat. This causes increased heat in the headers and they go blue.

However, the two headers normally go blue at the same time, so something odd is happening on your bike.

Incidentally the headers are made of stainless steel and have a tendency to a golden colour throughout their length, unless cleaned thoroughly with products like 'Blue Job' or 'Autosol'.

 

understand why the headers would discolour in the way that you describe, but its not the reason here and the "slight" issue is that it only seems to affect the l/hand side. i'll try to take a picture, but on mine it is more small patches of discolouration, akin to marks left by people with "rusty fingers" for the engineers on here

 

Interesting, one is running hotter! Could be a deeper problem that's going unnoticed.

 

I'll try to get some pics sorted over the weekend. The l/h is blue, the r/h is normal but has a blotchy fingerprint type of stain that it came with from New. My only real criticism of this beautiful bike.

 

I kinda preferred the original 'brushed' stainless look - hence not going at them with Autosol and ending up with 'polished' headers/pipes.

Those kinky pipes look great next to the altered engine profile, but would appear odd on the standard bike.
