Check out the warranty on those tank pads triumph have changed supplier as they are falling off all over the place. my dealer has a pile of non stick rubber.
Hi Pottsy, Thanks for the 'heads up' about the 'teflon rubber'......no idea where the knee pads were bought from, the previous owner bought/fitted those, I fitted the tank pad so I can chase that up......but I will call the Triumph factory tomorrow to see if they will offer support and /or replacements. Cheer, dickydido
Got my recall done today by Bulldog Triumph. In and out in no time. Took exactly 30 mins, although I did tell them I was in a rush (which I was)!
I don't blame you Chris for waiting. My dealer is only 12 miles away and my Thruxton was filthy when I returned home this morning. Luckily no salt, just mud. I joked with the guys today at Triumph to be more considerate in the future and only do recalls in the summertime.
Hi Pottsy, .....new knee pads and tank pad arriving tomorrow courtesy of 'the Factory', when I called them they admitted they did have a problem with 'non stick' adhesive..... In the mean time I bought some 'tank eye candy' and fitted it today....... .....just a heads-up to anybody else who is going to fit the tank strap themselves....you do not need to disconnect the electrics and the fuel line to do this, just disconnect the mounting bolt and move the tank backwards and lift and support the front end of the tank off the frame on a rolled up towel or something, then there is enough slack in the systems to access and install the strap.....only discovered this after I had taken the tank off of course..... .....getting the fuel line 'quick release' dis-connector to disconnect took at least 15mins.......I just could not apply enough pinching force to the connector and lift it simultaneously so I made up this little gadget out of a couple of cable ties... ...and this allowed me to pinch in the lugs on the disconnector with enough force to release it and lift it off the fuel delivery pipe spiggot at the same time......I guess the 'factory boys' have some special tool to do this with........or they just have superhero strength fingers! The new 'tank eye candy' does mean I will have no use for the new tank pad so that'll be for sale at a good price when it turns up Happy Christmas to everyone. Cheers, dickydido
Thanks dickydido, I was thinking of buying the tank strap and must admit thought it would be a 2 minute job, why's nothing simple....
Hi Pottsy, ........just to conclude the 'tale of the non stick knee pads'....... I'd been promised replacement knee pads with glue that stayed stuck for delivery on 19th December......I finally picked up the replacements from my local dealer today, 18th Jan,.....the dealer said that they had not heard anything about a problem with non sticking pads....funny that since the boys in warranty at the Triumph Factory were well up to speed with the problem and got on the case straight away.....I 'm guessing lots of other people needed replacement pads as well as me then so there was a back log on delivery.......I fitted the news ones this afternoon, fingers crossed these have waterproof glue on them!.... Cheers, dickydido
Why would you need water proof glue?????? I dont think the Thruxton keeps its warranty if used in the rain. Ha ha.
