I started my Speed Triple the other day, switched it off then tried to start it again but it’s not fired up since. Battery is good, engine cranking over fine just not firing, plenty of fuel & have bike on an Optimate. All warning lights working as should. Tried the usual but am sporting a fractured foot at the moment so not too enthused about working on the bike right now so not yet checked if there's a fuel problem or if there is a spark at the plugs. It ran fine minutes before so I can't see why a fuel or ignition problem would occur immediately after I shut the engine off. Just wondering if anyone has had a similar issue. Cheers.
No, I'll go check that in a while but I never took it of the stand between it starting and then it not starting so it's doubtful. Still worth a look though. Cheers.
I had this one morning, would chug over but not fire. The day before, I was working on the electrics and turning ignition on and off which was priming the fuel pump etc. Not sure what happened, but I suspect the fuel mix was too rich or the sparks were soaked and wouldn't fire. In the end I got it working, but it took 10 min of on and off turning it over and having to swap to a spare battery One thing, do not open the throttle when starting up, this will flood the system and make starting more difficult. I can only suggest the usual route: Air Fuel Spark Air box, does the filter need cleaning/replacing. Are the conection hoses/boots secure, not dry & split or come detatched. Fuel, clean fuel in the tank, no vens in the cap blocked causing a vacume. Spark, battery, spark plugs, connections. If you can, turn over the bike a few times with the spark plugs removed to help clear any excess fuel in the pots. Clean any carbon off the spark plugs.
Also the switch on the clutch lever. Or have you inadvertently flicked that big red button on the right? Done it myself and panicked more than once.
Bike or rider, well lets see! Just went out to try and BOOM it starts. I reckon it must have been flooded. Last time I tried to start it was Tuesday, I think leaving it stand for a bit allowed it to vape/dry out. Any how all seems to be well just need this foot to heal so I can get out on it. Thanks for all of your input people.
Do keep an eye on the battery, use a multimeter to check the voltage is around 12.6v at rest, if it takes a while to 'recover' after tuning off the engine before it allows you to start the bike again, it could bea sign thatthe stator or rectifier is on the way out or has indeed already departed! Very glad you manaed to get her working again though. Always a relief when it fires up again
