I have a Oxford tank bag which I bought when I had my Thunderace many moons ago, I don't fancy plopping it on my speed triple tank when I get it any alternatives or tips ? I also still have some throw over panniers but will I need a bracket to keep them off the high level exhausts .... Or should I order the low level can!!
When i looked for panniers i could only see 2 options one was the S W Motech "Blaze" which i went for, the other was "Givi" but i thought they were a bit wide.the only problem i had with the S W Motech was i had to lower the exhausts by about an inch as there was no way the bar would fit over the Arrow exhausts (they will fit over the standard exhausts as they sit slightly lower) s w motech also do tank bags with the quick lock tank ring to keep the bag from scratching the tank
Booking.com Sorry, couldn't resist - my days in tents are thankfully a fading memory. Been too cold, too hot, wet, eaten and miserable too many times to contemplate recommending anything to do with camping.
Any lightweight tent, but must have a good HH rating 3000+ (mines 5000 and water tight) Get a decent ground sheet or footprint even if the tent has one built in. Self inflating mattress 40mm or more. Inflatable pillow. Good 3 season sleeping bag. Deffo need a folding chair. Stove.
I can take it all, smaller dark blue fibre glass trailer takes a 100kgs of gear, the bigger two berth camper can carry 145kgs plus its already got led lights and a 4" thick mattress already built in, I tow either behind my 2008 efi Bonneville America, its now rebored to 904cc hi compression motor. So I can even carry gear for friends who run out of room. Check pictures in gallery, camper set up in one picture !
Do you get "worlds greatest motorcycle rides" on your telly? I've just watched the episodes where Henry Cole is riding from Perth to Darwin about 5500kms i think, stopping off at various interesting places,I'm not too keen on Henry in his other shows but in this he doesn't talk about bikes much ..therefore he makes more sense!
I watched worlds greatest motorcycle rides last night where henry was on a gorgeous Norton 961, the bike I considered before I bought the Thruxton. He was riding the Norfolk broads, the show was more Henry in little boats and nothing much to review on the bike other than how it wasn't that nice to ride, sore ass after 20miles. Beautiful bike, but think I made the right decision.
i bet if they had made the Norton a 1200 you're decision would have been a bit harder ..it's a gorgeous looking bike though
Nah, but we get plenty of reality TV and cooking shows down here in OZ. Don't get any real interesting car or bike TV...!
i think you can watch various full episodes on you tube,it might be worth looking for the Perth to Darwin one as it's not far from you and you have probably been on most of the roads
In answer to the original question "What camping equipment do you recommend?" The address of a good B&B?
Hi Doug, been on most of the roads between Perth and Geraldton by bike and done the coastal hwy as far North as Exmouth/Shark bay by bike. Gone up as far as Port headland by truck and coach ( driving have truck & coach licences ) been to Darwin and the NT as a soldier in the late 80's on manoeuvres/exercises drove APC's (light armoured vehicles) all throughout from Katherine to Darwin and WA border. My wife and I would like to do the ride as a 3 to 5 week tour sometime next year ( just need to win lottery & it's a goer ) we have the bike, camper & equipment just need the £££ and we will be off, it might pay us to watch the you tube episode. Cheers Mick
Get a trailer ! No problem with Exhaust burns on you're bag's , love life stays intact ... Oh. Your talking about luggage, same deal. LoL. Trailer hauling is getting more and more common over here in OZ, got my first about 10yrs ago, saw only a couple of others, last couple of years have been seeing a few each week travelling East/West on the Great Eastern Highway, We live in Northam it's 90/100 klms East of Perth on Get E/Hwy, so we regularly see Bike's travelling East / West. More and more towing.
Each to there own, i think it kind of defeats the object of going camping/ touring on a motorbike. if i wanted to tow id be driving my pickup with the caravan on the back.
it's maybe differant in Oz where you can travel for 1000 miles or more? on arrow straight roads before you reach any bendy stuff, i don't think i would need a trailer in the uk or Europe to be honest (unless you are going to do a lot of motorway riding?)
Hi Double, yes its very different here, can be 200+ klms between fuel stations, And here in WA we have one of the WORLD'S longest stretches of straight road... 145klms.... Or 90m ! And the averga distance between corner's on most roads would be higher ???
Boy, the last time I had something similar was in Northern Germany. Imagine my surprise and elation when I saw a sign that a curve was coming up in 3km. Tension building I wanted to hear metal scraping on tarmac having been starved off any fun on the road for two whole days. 1km before the speed was reduced to 50 kph and 500m beforehand to 30 kph. Speed cameras everywhere - arseholes! I seriously think that that may have been the only curve within a radius of 200 km and bugger me, they managed to destroy it.
