Did someone post about a dodgy ebay seller in Derby ?

I'm looking at a Honda XBR500 on Ebay. The advert "I've got a bad back" and the evasive answers to my questions are screaming "don't touch with a barge pole". I seem to remember that on one of the forums I frequent somebody posted about a dodgy seller in the Derby area. The sellers name is peardrop3 and says pickup is from the Castle Donnington area. Does this ring a bell with anyone ?

Only way is to view and personally speak to the seller, he seems to honest about the bike and not offer any guarantee's what so ever.
He says he's not even run it, so worth taking a battery & 1/2 gallon of go juice.
Bike does look to have had a hard life by the look of the fork stantions and clutch case etc.
£999 seems to be may be top end for a spares/repair?

 

Well he has good feedback and if you look at his seller feedback he seems to be dealing in bike parts, mainly Honda.

That's either a good thing or, he bought the XBR500 with a view to getting it going then selling it on but has found that there's something expensive wrong and he wants rid.

As already said the only thing to do would be to take a battery and some go juice and see if it runs. As always with fleabay you taking a chance. Personally and at that price I'd leave it.

Yes, horrible in my opinion. Would need a lot of parts to get it back to standard.

Looking for a 70's honda twin really. The xbr is a possible. A cb550 is an outsider as is a Yam xs650.
Looking at cb450 US imports.

I'm not expecting a "minter" but I think I'll give this one a miss. I reckon I at least need a runner.

 

After I gave up looking for a 60s Triumph to restore I started looking at other project bikes. Like you I considered the Yam XS650, mainly because it was a nod to the old Brit bikes.

However, what was rapidly climbing to the top of the list was the Honda CL450 scrambler style, all of them seen to be US imports. I'm not sure that particular model was ever sold in the UK?

Yes I can see that would look really good restored. The mention of a rattle isn't good, depends how bad the rattle is I suppose. Tempting.
