    Hi all

I've spent the last few years toying with the idea of making an online motorcycle classifieds site and want your opinion on what would make it good.

I've come up with a one-page questionnaire for you to help me along the way. If it looks like it's something people are interested in then I'll chuck in my job and go for it full time.

    Thanks in advance!

    Luke

Hi Luke, as there are already a number of motorcycle classified adds sites on the 'net, what is it about your idea that would make it any different?

i think hes possibly looking for ideas from us, i filled in the survey and suggested that HPI and all other relevant checks should be done on all vehicles advertised..at no extra cost to the advertiser ( the cost could be "hidden" in the price of the advert i guess) i think Autotrader is one of the best with all the different search options it has.i don't imagine it would be cheap to promote a new site to compete with the established ones..free "Mickey" motorbike toy maybe ;)

I hear you Dougie but Luke has been thinking about this for years, so whilst a customer-based survey is a good thing, you need to have some idea of how/where your service will fit, don't you?

The best idea I've heard of is the one where the buyer puts in all the details of the vehicle he wants on the "I want one of these" website then the site invites any suppliers of "these" to compete for his business.
I don't think it caught on because the suppliers were not keen to compete with each other.

I can understand that. Effectively the site is setting up a reverse auction where the prices would be driven down.

Hi all thanks for the replies. I've deliberately not set out my ideas because I don't want them to guide your own thoughts. I also don't think a new site would have to be vastly different in order to be better.

I like the reverse auction prospect - when I'm not on MCN, Parkers, or Pistonheads, I've often looked at Auto e-bid to browse the bargains that can be had.

However, it's a bit different to used classifieds and not something that could be done without huge investment. Classifieds wouldn't be easy either, but the early stages could be done.

Thanks again for any feedback. I really appreciate it!
