Hi everyone, Long-time lurker, first-time poster here. I’ve recently returned to Portugal and I’m finally getting my 2015 Scrambler back on the road after it’s been sitting for a couple of years. It’s going in for a full service (oil, filters, battery) and a front fork rebuild to sort out some dryness and rust. I’m torn between a local BMW specialist or the main Triumph dealer—any thoughts on that? I’m 193cm (6'4"), so I’m looking at a few mods to make the bike fit me better and refresh the ride. I’m a casual tarmac/backroad rider—nothing off-road. I’d love your feedback on these bits: Rear Riser Blocks: Looking at the 'Free Spirits 35mm Riser Block for Triumph Classic kit' to get that 1200 XE look/height. Is it safe? Does it ruin the handling? (I’ll do the front spacers and a longer kickstand too to compensate). Suspension: Thinking Bitubo or YSS for front and rear. Any specific models you’d recommend for a plus-sized rider? Lighting: The stock bulb is rubbish at night. What’s the best "plug and play" bulb upgrade? Is a full LED unit worth the faff/cost? Air Filter: Want a simple drop-in replacement (K&N/DNA?). Does it actually make a difference without a remap? Ergos: Considering SW-Motech lowering pegs (15mm) and maybe bar risers. Has anyone my height tried this combo? Or any other brand? Luggage: I’ve got a left-side rack, but has anyone found a decent solution for a right-side rack that clears the high pipes? Consumables: Any strong preferences for oil, chain/sprocket/spark kits, or batteries for this specific model? I’m sourcing parts from British Legends or Free Spirits from Europe to avoid the VAT headaches. Cheers for any help or suggestions!
The rear riser kit will work fine, along with the fork mods and the all-important side stand. Regarding the suspension, I have little knowledge of the YSS, but I hear good things about them. Personally I would go for the Bitubo or even better K-Tech. Any quality aftermarket suspension will tailor the unit to your weight with all your normal riding kit on. Upgrading the lighting would certainly enhance, and improve your safety for nighttime riding. K@N filters are really good, they let the engine breathe a little better. There's no need to replace them as you do with an OEM filter, just clean and re-lube. No mods needed. The SW Motech kit is of quality. Lowering the footrests will give you a lot more comfort, but less ground clearance, although that may not be an issue for you. For the luggage, have a look at a set of panniers that go over the seat and sides. There are a number of quality ones out there. Regarding the consumables, go for an OEM oil filter, quality oil like Motol, battery stick with the OEM, chain and sprockets, look at quality ones like Afam or DID. Hope this helps, and ride safe out there.
With regard to the lighting. A replacement LED "bulb" will look great in daylight but absolute rubbish during darkness due to the light source not then matching that of the reflector. You really need a complete new LED headlight assembly. The other option would be to fit some decent auxiliary lamps which have a dipping function.
