    Hi,
Just had my 1st lesson today (2nd one tomorrow).
Today was clutch control, slow riding, figure of 8s and just basic control etc. bike used was a Yamaha MT-07.
Really enjoyed it despite the cold .

Great to hear about a new recruit!

When I sat my test you basically had to read a number plate, ride around the block a couple of times watched by the examiner and not hit him when he stepped in front of you for an emergency stop!

Good luck with the rest of your lessons.

    Thanks ,
I wish I had done mine back then, just never got around to it. It was easier and a hell of a lot cheaper!

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but of no use - look ahead to a two wheeled future and all the joy that brings

I passed my car test at 17 and later did my bike licence at 21. I was spurned on to do this by missing out on the 250cc on L plates allowance and thought this is only going to get more complicated and expensive; how true a foresight that was, don't you think?

Good luck, pass or fail, just get it fully completed and then, assuming you are over 24, you can buy what you want.

    What do you fancy getting?

You have already done an intro post or two - up to you, but if you start a thread in the "Lounge" bit for instance, charting your learning journey you might get a bit more interaction and it might also be useful for others. I am sure we'd all like to follow along - I have only been riding for five years this year, so remember the process only too well!!

    Hi,
Yeah back when I was 18 I had a Yamaha RDLC 125, I actually didn’t know the L plate allowance was 250. I think I didn’t do the test as I got into cars.
Yes I’m a little over 24…. and I’m after getting a Triumph tiger sport 800.

    Thanks @Eldon :)
That’s something I never knew. It was 1987-89 when I was riding.

That’s pretty much what I did, passed the car test at 18, courtesy of a course and test provided and paid for by the company I’d just started working for, then took the bike test on a 250 at 21, purely because I had a XJ12 at the time which was single figure MPG on the commute to work so wanted some cheap transport. Bought a Yamaha DT250MX and never looked back, well, sort of!

It’s not specifically the training now required to get a full licence that I find annoying, it’s the extortionate cost of it all .

    Hi,
I’ve moved this post to the lounge thread under “My journey to a full licence”
I’ll post more of my journey to my full licence on there.

Not surprising really as the Aprilia 125 was reckoned to do over the ton straight out of the crate.

Yes my eldest boy had one and it sat with my 660 and other bike easily. Till Mr taxi driver decided he was going to pull out in front of him. He now has a Suzuki and hates it.

I remember the Yamaha TZR, that was also a quick bike at around the ton mark.
