Our opportunity to have our say on plans for the DVSA to change the training, testing and licensing of motorcyclists.

From the Gov.UK website: This consultation focuses on moped and motorcycle categories (AM, A1, A2 and full category A (sometimes known as A3)) and the arrangements for the training of learner motorcyclists in Great Britain (GB) and the regulation of those who train them. The options in this consultation only apply to GB.

Must have a look, it is all too difficult and complex already, and I doubt they'll make it any easier..... Governments hate motorcycles!!

However, I'm on holiday, so back burner at the moment!!

Missed opportunity to ban learner riders from carrying or delivering goods and the requirement of further qualifications before being allowed to do so IMHO

I feel very cynical about this, and don't believe for a moment that anyone will be listening. :(

Perhaps not, but completing it certainly causes no hardship and does prevent the inevitable statement about the lack of engagement from the public meaning that the issue is not important to people. (IF enough people get involved....).

I totally agree. Unfortunately as we discovered with the 'motorcycles in bus lanes' petition, there are a lot of people who just can't be bothered. Can't understand why.

"Can't be bothered" or believe it is futile? Each to their own opinion.

One thing is for certain, it is guaranteed to be futile if no one even tries.

It's a choice, obviously, but it's like people who don't vote in a general election who then moan about the election result when if everyone who was so steadfast about not voting had voted, the result may have been different.

@Mrs Visor That's a long old survey but took it. Doesn't really help in the fact that youngsters these days need at least two to three thousand pounds before the insurance so most don't bother ad wait a year to taake the slightly cheaaper car test.

I do the surveys but really don't care about voting. It won't make a difference to me as they are all crooks worse than Mafia not to mention liars

I am a US citizen living and working here on a spouse visa. I have nearly 40 years of motorcycle riding and ownership. Hundreds of track days, years of off road single ( or no ) track riding. 30 years of lane splitting Los Angeles traffic to work everyday. I do consider myself an always wanting to learn kind of rider.

I just went through both the DVLA car and motorcycle licensing program….

The backlog is disgusting and being blamed on by Covid…. Really???

I am OK with starting from scratch all over again… always can learn something and also gain experience riding on opposite side of road… but the failure rates indicate one of two things …, either the training programs don’t match the testing standards or the typical British driver (rider) is not capable enough to get through this exhaustingly long riding course. I think the training course and testing don’t match. Each time I was at a dvla testing facility, most of the people I met were there for retakes… why are they not taught correct the first time?? And, bye the way, my car practical is in February, 11 months after I made the appointment…,
I appreciate how thorough the British want to make everything they do in their lives… just please make the standards match … there are a ton of sad and disappointed drivers( and riders) who are probably excellent…
All this is always justified in the name of “safety “ so no one can launch an argument!

    just my 2p

@Shock The quick answer to this one is it makes them more money. I used to ride with an examiner some year ago. He told me they were told to fail one in every car drivers for any reason.
