Saw The Lost Bus today - it's based on the true story of a school bus full of children escaping a rapidly spreading wildfire in California.... topical but not preaching, full on exciting stuff!!
Was channel skipping on the cable TV last night and happened on the start of ‘We were soldiers’ - I remembered it was a decent film when it came out and thought I’d leave it on. Twenty odd years since it was made but not lost any of its presence. EDIT Yes, I know the fix bayonets bit at the end is not accurate in any way, shape or form but putting that Hollywood Licence to one side it’s still a great film IMHO
Biopic time.... Although I'm not a big Dylan fan I saw A Complete Unknown, and then last week, despite not being a Springsteen fan either, I saw Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere. Neither is a glossy pop story (more Walk The Line than Bohemian Rhapsody!), but they show the struggles these creative musicians face to get their music out there with good performances by the lead actors, and I enjoyed them both. On the other hand, I saw Roofman which is based on the story of a guy who breaks into McDonalds restaurants to rob them and lives in a Toys'R'Us store. It's an odd story with a few laughs along the way, and from the real people featured over the end credits, seems to be surprisingly close to the real events! It's certainly a bit different.
Me again... well, Monday is cheap cinema ticket day and it's raining! Watched Relay - A classic thriller with engaging performances from Riz Ahmed, Lily James and Sam Worthington.... I only knew about this from a previous cinema preview, no other advertising that I've seen, but definitely worth a watch.
I saw with my wife the new "Dracula - A Love Tale". This film was a heartwarming interpretation of the well known story. Especially the acting of Christoph Waltz was great again.
Naked gun. Well it was OK if you've nothing else to watch, but I wouldn't rush out and buy the DVD. Can't beat the original.
40th Anniversary of Back to the Future.... how could I resist, and still better than a lot of the crap I've seen this year!! Travelled in my Clio time machine of course!!
We watched The Circle last night, on DVD so we'd seen it before, but it really makes you wonder about social media and how so many people just accept it without question!! Then to make us wonder about TV reality show fakery.... we saw the new Running Man movie today - what a hoot! Total hokum but it wouldn't surprise me if it gave some nutty TV producer an idea for a new reality game show!! For all I know there is already a show like it, reality shows are avoided like the plague in this household. Also, some of it was filmed in Glasgow so I could play spot the building, including my old office building. It won't win any oscars, but it was a fun way to pass a couple of hours on a freezing cold day.....
Went to see this today. Absolutely brilliant film, even the wife liked it too. Russell Crow plays a cracking part, as do all the actors, some critics have said that Rami Malek lets the side down, can't think why. It might not be 100% historically accurate, but it's rare that films made today are, but that's not the actors fault, just the writer. All in a a really enjoyable film, and even better if you can watch it at the Kinema in the woods. https://thekinemainthewoods.co.uk/KinemaInTheWoods.dll/Home Treat yourself to this cinema, it's brilliant.
Yes, it's a magical place to go and watch a film. And it's even better as I bought some insurance through Compare the meerkats, and get half price tickets. £4.50 is a absolute bargain in my book.
This is a film I've thought of seeing, but I've read that there are some harrowing scenes in Nuremberg, actual footage from the camps, which is not something my better half would take very well......
You're correct, but it's nothing that maybe you've both seen on TV before, and it doesn't dwell too long on the subject, it highlights a few camps. I think they're just reminding people of just how low the human race can go. But you know your better half more than I, so maybe best to skip this film.
Don't ever go to Auschwitz with her - though I really do think that everybody should "experience" the place and learn/see/feel what went on there - and at many other similar camps. It is a shocking, visceral indictment of the Nazi regime and, to an extent, of mankind.
Been to Auschwitz twice, and it's amazing how some people act while they're there. Many moons ago I went to Dachau with a mate of mine, it was a boiling hot day and we're both walking around in leathers, the difference was he had his beer belly out for all to see, and I was zipped up. Needless to say it wasn't long before and official gestured to zip his leathers up.
Watched this last night, and I've got to admit it was really enjoyable. The keen eyed among you, who might watch this film, will notice is, that when there's a punch up at the 2nd petrol station, it's the 59 Café in Skipton. All credit to Kiefer Sutherland, who lets face it, is a well know Hollywood actor and is a multi millionaire, that he decided to do this film, along with another Hollywood actress Alice Eve. They both could have said no, but they didn't. Give it a go you might enjoy it too. It's filmed around Knaresborough.
