Very pretty but personally, I wouldn’t touch one with a barge pole…..taped to the end of another, even longer barge pole.

For me it looks like that a Mini is hiding in a Land Rover.:p

What a pile of junk, JLR really have lost their way starting from a good UTILITY vehicle, that was very capable, and ending up with a Chelsea tractor that spends the majority of the year in the garage.

5.0 supercharged V8....... who's paying for the petrol, been there, done that, and let's not mention the road tax.

No doubt the reliability will be typically shocking as we've come to expect.
I am aware of a guy who is waiting months for a cracked windscreen resolving, the problem being it's inside the warranty period. No contractors are allowed due to the heads up display etc yet they don't have any stock. The vehicle in question was going up for sale at £55k but he can't move it on until repaired. He even offered it into the same main dealer in px at £45k accepting the hit, but as they can't get parts they declined him. You couldn't make it up!

    Absolutely shocking pile of junk!

    Just for clarity, in the past I was an avid LR fan having had various products of theirs;
    series 2
    series 3
    Classic RR x2
    Disco 1 x2
    90
    110

..... no more, the old stuff had it's issues but the modern stuff is far worse.

    Absolutely @Eldon !
I have a 1996 Defender 90 which throws it's toys out of the pram now and again for no reason whatsoever, but it can usually be fettled with a good kick and a bit of swearing. I know of so many folk with shocking LR reliability issues there's no way I would have a modern one.

OK, I’m firmly in the Land Cruiser camp but it’s an old(ish) one, 1997, the last of the mechanically injected diesels, no AD blue, no DPF/CAT, no fancy electronics or “contact your dealer” warning light. Apart from the basic electrics that make it run It has electric windows and seats, an FM radio, and a fag lighter and that’s about it.
I’ve read the new Defender has 85 ECU’s capable of processing thousands of “network messages” simultaneously. WTF!!

Talking about modern stuff my JLR Evoque is in having a new cam chain and tensioner kit at a extortionate cost of £2600 it's only done 57k but that's the main weakness of the engine sorted hopefully I will get a few thousand miles done without any further dramas just as well I only do around 5k a year

A camchain should last far more than 57k miles, belts last longer than that..... shocking.
The company van is 40k miles between oil changes...... that just seems ridiculous in my engineering mind.

Don't get me on about wet belts... what a stupid idea!
A mate has a Puma from new 2020. At 30k miles he's now sweating and wondering if it's best to offload it before it causes any problems.
THIRTY THOUSAND MILES and he's now worried :poop:
Main dealer serviced to the book... every TWO YEARS :scream:
His youngest sold his Fiesta to his own girlfriend who's now doing lessons. First time out the oil light comes on :eyes:
The belt had degraded and blocked the oil strainer.

£1000 in a back street garage for a new wet belt, oil pump and other bits fitting

Modern cars and designs are rubbish, they've simply gone off the plot of sensible reliable transport and just want to milk you of every penny along the way!

I’ve seen videos of the wet belt problem and it beggars belief. I always understood one of the main advantages of a belt drive was it’s external and easier/cheaper to inspect and change despite having a shorter life than an internal chain drive which (was supposed to) last the life of the engine, or at least well into six figures. If this is progress, then up the Luddites!

I'll tell you one advantage of a wet belt if you can call it that my young neighbour has a DS3 and last time it went in for some maintenance the garage informed her that there was small amounts of rubber type shavings in the oil as the belt was starting to break down so that's a good visual aid if you are a glass half full type of person ;)

I'm certainly not sure I'd call that an advantage but I like your optimism.
Personally I'd class myself as a realist, although others may say pessimist.
So, if an external cambelt fails it bends a few valves. Head off, spend a few quid and abracadabra.... I've done plenty of those jobs.

If an internal wet belt goes, we just trash the crank, mains, oil pump etc..... :dizzy:

    Engine.... bin :poop:

    Start again.

    And that's progress?
    : unamused:

Only had one belt go on me and that was in a 1980 MK3 Capri but luckily with that pinto engine there was enough clearance between the piston and valves new belt couple of hours later and off you go

I once repaired a van for a courier. One morning it wouldn't start so he thought no problem as I live on a big hill
Let it roll and get some speed up, drop the clutch in 2nd and....... nothing : unamused:
    Ok let's try that again!
    Nothing :D
All the push rods, cam in the bottom but supposedly belt driven, yep all x8, were so uniformly kinked that it looked like the manufacturer intentionally made them like that.
The belt was probably on the floor outside his house

    On another day.....
I once test drove a Mercedes after servicing it. Foot down into kickdown and we're off

..... it's a real shame the valve head came off before it changed back up a gear :scream:

    JLR rant.
JLR called me to say my Evoque was due a service. An expensive one as the flexible brake pipes needed changing. We agreed a date and time. 3 days before the service an email arrives suggesting I can check-in online, which I did by answering loads of questions just like a survey. The night before the service a phone call asking exactly the same questions. I took the car in to the dealership where I was told it would be over 4 hours. I'd arranged to meet a friend for lunch. 4 hours later, a phone call to say the engine service was complete but they couldn't do the brake pipes as they hadn't got any in stock. Another visit scheduled for the end of December. They then told me they couldn't update the service record until the pipes were replaced. 3 days later they phoned to ask my opinion on the customer service I'd received. They got both barrels!

On the plus side, I did get to have a wander around Smiths of Chester.:)

Well £2500 worse off and i got the evoque back today and what a difference can turn the radio down quite a bit now at least the warranty paid the first £1845 of the bill so should be good for the rest of its life with me anyway so I can go and pick the puppies up from Bolton on Saturday in confidence i won't need to get towed off the motorway
Yes decided that there was something missing from my life and mental health and although I said would never have another dog after the grief I felt loosing my best mate last year have weighed up the benefits of having dogs around again and found a lovely pair of sisters so settling them in should be less stressful well hopefully :p

Very few, if any modern engines are of the non-interferece type so, in the absence of a warranty, if the cam belt/chain breaks, so does your wallet.
