    Hi,

I need to reset the recorded amount of fuel in the tank and the range.
I have just fitted some fog lights on the engine bars and needed the tank off. All successfully completed!
I started the whole process when the tank was almost empty - range indicating 22 miles.
When the tank was back on started, the engine started all looked good. Range still at 22 miles.
Stopped the engine and added 5 litres of super unleaded. Started the bike again but the range did not go up nor did the fuel bars increase, waited 5 - 10 mins, still not registered the increase. So it had not recognised that 5 litres of fuel had been added.
Stopped the engine and found that the electrical connector for the fuel level was not properly connected. Lifted the tank a bit job done.
Still the 5 litres have not been recognised but using the bike the range has decreased from 22 to 20.
So it would appear that the fuel level sensor is working but needs resetting/calibating.
    How? Help!

I had thought about carrying 5litres of fuel in a can, taking the bike out (obviously drained out as much as possible of the fuel in the tank first ) ride until it ran out of fuel, then adding more from the carried can. Good idea or bad idea?

    Cheers.

Sometimes they don't register until you've travelled a bit rather than just run the engine

    @crispey

Thank you, you were spot on.
    It slowly increased over 4miles.
I then called in to a fuel station, filled brim fuel. Showed full on the gauge, then dropped back a bit. Few 100yds full again.

On my BM1200GS the level went up almost immediately, hence I thought something was wrong.

However thank you very much for your post, most appreciated indeed.

Both my Street Scramblers has to be ridden for anything up to half a mile before a full tank would register after refuelling but the new 1200 is almost instant.

On my first BM GS there was a strip in the fuel tank for measuring the depth of fuel. Caused no end of problem for people but not for me. On the last GS BM reverted to a float instant recording.
But as they say ever day is a school day!

One other thing I’ve noticed about the gauge on the 1200 is it shows full for the first 80-90m or so then drops like a stone.
