My display isn't working (apparently some of the pins on the unit broke off - dealer says Triumph America won't do anything 2021 bike.) The bike starts and rides ok... is there a way to get the indicators to work, bypassing that control unit?
I can’t answer your exact question, but assuming you didn’t fiddle with the connector and break the pins, I’d bypass the dealer and complain direct to Triumph America and failing that Triumph UK. Those pins shouldn’t break on a four year old bike, which would suggest a manufacturing fault.
@Lord Alfred Hard one to prove Alought i agree with @RevPaul Is there not a good electrical shop who could possibly redo the pins. But a good moan at Triumph may relieve the tensions.
"Thanks for contacting us. We are sorry to hear that you may be experiencing an issue with your motorcycle. Unfortunately, we, as in Triumph's customer service team, can not submit claims or provide or predict coverage on any claim. Your best place to start any claim process with your motorcycle is an authorized Triumph dealership as they will be your only source to have a claim submitted on your behalf." This was denied.
And a new problem after two rides the bike has shut down.. Dealer says a rewire is in order... how easy would this be? they are quoting 10 hours, I can't afford that!
Update: got the bike home on a trailer. Nothing to lose I get the old display out (now this is 'dead' with the lights on it not showing anything) and I hear the fuel pump prime... and it starts! Anyone know how to crack one open? without it breaking?
No, you can't easily bypass the display unit. It's the main computer that controls the indicators and most other functions. Your only real fix is to replace the display unit, even if it's expensive. Try finding a used one on eBay to save money.
So what has actually broken? The dealer says a rewire is required so is it part of the wiring loom or a connector that has failed? “Pairing” of components is common on CANBUS systems.
Bypassing it isn't an option. The display runs the bike's systems. Your only fix is a replacement. Check for a used one online to cut the cost.
