Just in Mountain Warehouse in Stirling, queueing to pay for a jacket, when a guy walked out with a tent under his arm!

The manager and I gave chase, but he was off like a rocket..... apparently shoplifting under a certain value is not a crime (!), so she just shrugged it off and said it's a £15 tent, so it'll not do him much good!!

    What a country!

Apparently Mrs May, one of our glorious MPs brought that in. I often wonder about these people who want to legalise drugs, as it's out of control. So if burglary gets out of control, would our glorious leaders legalise that too then. ??

Shoplifting goods of any value is still a crime. The under £200 limit is a myth.

Well done for the chase; I have to admit the more desperate people get and the rise in people carrying weapons means that it does make you wonder whether it is worth the risk to your safety as a member of the public who presumably has family / friends who value them :(.

I used to work for one of the biggest courier companies in the 90's & 2000's and we were always told if we were threatened to let them take the vehicle it isn't worth getting hurt over then coming up to Christmas a good few years ago I was out delivering on my round being very busy as our main work was provided by our parent company who is the leading mail order catalogue provider and I was down someone's driveway with a parcel and I just watched my van driving away it was found a couple of days later not that far from where it was stolen from with no damage just empty with the keys still in it my tobacco and phone was nowhere to be seen though and that was my concern at the time the van was taken
Anyway despite what we were told about not putting ourselves in harms way and letting criminals just take the vehicle I got suspended and later that week got fired so that was was quite hypocritical what really annoyed me is not long after the Christmas period the company started to make part of the work force redundant and I had nearly 15 years in my brother who started after me and only had about 9 years in walked away with close on £17k I was rather miffed as you can imagine as because I was let go I forfeited any redundancy

We never really got close to the guy, but was I really going to leave the manager giving chase on her own?? ;)

Hopefully because you're a good bloke as opposed to because the manager was female.....

Going back to one night back in the early 90’s, my Brother and I were alerted to some scumbags up to no good in our street in the early hours of the morning.
Turns out they’d broke into a van just round the corner and lifted a load of power tools. We called the Police, then went out and gave chase and I caught one who I, erm….restrained.
The police response was excellent, around 5 mins I reckon and led the guy away. They also found a load of power tools hidden underneath a car parked up the road, plus they pulled a guy sat waiting in a car with the engine running 2 streets away.
Apparently the guy I caught, initially wanted to press charges for the “restraint” but then decided not to when the Police explained the predicament he was in.
I wonder if the same would happen today?

Just seen this, sorry. I reckon you got fired because you left the keys in the van, I did the vans for a while before I retired and it was a stackable offence at my workplace.

Being the cynic I am I reckon that they already knew redundancies were coming in the New Year and that they could save a few quid : unamused:

And mine it just was just
Just an added excuse to save money sprint Dave was right in being a sackable offense but I just made it easier for them they were trialling owner drivers and housewife couriers to try save money with the merge of two large companies being Littlewoods and great universal stores it didn't help with LDV van division getting into difficulty and only delivering 2500 of 3500 maxxus vans ordered they even had the cheek to ask me for two days over payment for holidays

Yes same here it was just so close to Christmas and with close on 200 deliveries to clear every second counted I just wasn't aware I was being followed
We had three vans taken in as many weeks one was taken from the an area our depot covered on North Wales coast and turned up in Blackpool and was involved in a ram raid
