Tire (tyre) Mileage Expectations

I’m unfamiliar with the Avons but from your bike, mileage and riding description I’d expect around 8-9k from a rear.

 

For me and the Nightstorm the issue isn't so much how much tread is left, it's how much the rear squares off and feels horrible going into corners. My Cobra Chrome rear still has tread left on it but I'm seriously considering swapping it out for exactly that reason The joys of a heavy cruiser I suppose

 

I agree with @Helmut Visor When a tyre squares of it is time to change as it make the ride hazardous in corners and twisty's But again i would like to see at least eight thou miles from a tyre

 

I get about 9000 miles from a rear on the Dunlop Roadsmart IV SPs that I like and would not say that I hung about......the Hyperstrada came with new Metzler M7RRs fitted and I was on the wear bars in somewhere around 4000miles. I now have some Michelin Road 6s fitted so will see how they go, they feel great on the bike handling - wise so far. The Metzlers were lovely in the dry and very iffy in the wet .

Edited to add that my bikes are all at the lighter end of the spectrum and I am not a very big person either!

 

Welcome from Northern New Jersey! Plenty of twisties and elevation changes around here and in Eastern Pennsylvania!
I have been on Road 5 and 6 GTs for a few years. I love the road holding abilities of the dual compound tires, but I find that I only get 4-5k on the fronts. It might have something to do with pushing the corners 2-up on a heavy bike (Trophy SE and Sprint GT). The back survives better (big 190 width on the Trophy survives better). I also notice that the road surface has a profound effect. We had the Trophy in Colorado on the Peak-to-Peak ride with brand new asphalt. Imagine my surprise when I got to the turn-around point and saw the back tire!!

Today - looking into tyres ready for the Spring, what an exciting life I lead!! The tyres are at about 5,500 miles and have a bit more in them, but the rear seems to be loosing air, so will need attention.

My Honda CL500 has 80/20 Dunlop Mixtour tyres and I like the chunky look of them. They handle OK too, at my speeds anyway!

Anyone running 80/20 tyres as road tyres and want to comment or recommend - handling and mileage is of interest.

 

I have the Pirelli Rally STR’s, had them on 3 bikes now and really rate them. They have the “chunky” look, if that’s want you want and are great on the road, wet or dry. I preferred them to both the Metzeler Karoo Street and Tourance which the Scramblers came with. They are quite soft tough and wear quickly.

 

I had the Pirelli Scorpion Trail 2's on my Multistrada 1200s and they were very good in all road conditions, gave great feedback and lasted well.
