Hi folks. I know that most Speed Twin owners have a raging (internal) debate, about whether or not, to fit aftermarket rear shocks. The usual choices are Ohlins, YSS, Nitron, Hagon, etc. I just wanted to throw an alternative into the mix. I've recently upgraded to a set of 'Protech Shocks'. They are British made and fully adjustable for Preload, Rebound and Compression. If you buy direct from Protech, they are around £350 a pair. My ST performs really well on them, and they are a noticeable improvement over stock. They are far better than my skill level could ever explore. I am in no way affiliated with this company. I just wanted to mention a cheaper alternative to the usual suspects, and one that is well worth consideration. Regards, Lez
That's a very reasonable price for a decent pair of fully adjustable shocks. Personally, with deep enough pockets, I'd put a pair of bespoke Maxton shocks ahead of Ohlins anyday but a pair for my Street Scrambler came out around £1100.
Hi I'm thinking of fitting the pro techs to my 2020 Speed Twin 1200. Are you still pleased with them and could you advise how they affect the rear ride height, lower ir higher?
Yes, I'm still very pleased with them, both aesthetically and functionally. There is plenty of adjustment to either make it a total pig or absolutely sublime. Eyelet to eyelet is about 1mm longer. I set it up way too soft initially, but I've now upped the preloaded, and settled on setting 6 clicks out on the compression/rebound adjusters
thanks for the heads up on this i have ordered a pair of these for my speed twin .i usually go hagon but as these are a bit cheaper i thought id give them a try . i spent extra having the black anodized finish came in at £417 so still good . .i received a phone call from a guy at protech asking what my weight in riding gear was and if i carried a pillion and at 17 stone and very rarely with a pillion he said the standard spring with an extra 3mm of pre load would be fine .so looking forward to receiving them in a couple of days.
Well, i think you will be pleased with them (I went with the brushed finish). The build quality is great for the price in my opinion. I've upped the preload a good deal, but it's personal preference. Let us know how you get on
Fully rebuildeable, and serviceable too, and i felt it was nice to buy British, as the Triumph name is obviously British ♂️
