I am in the process to assemble the engine of my T20 cub. So far I have everything figured out and assembled. The Head- Valve pushrod assembly is killing me. What is the secret on this? I have made a tool with the two slots to hold the push roads apart, tried to secure them with a small wire, but cant get both staying in the designated place.

Any one has a INSIDER tip, how to set this up successful?
I have spend two days now and getting frustrated.

    Thanks Mr.JAJA

Yes this is a tricky one to get right.
I have managed it on a couple of Cubs, it is much easier with an extra pair of hands. Keep the push rods in the lower locations with a dab of grease on their ends.

Have someone hold the rods apart as you lower the head and as you lower the head make sure that both valves are as open as possible so that the part which connects to the push rod is as close to it as you can get it. That way the push rods should start to locate before the head is fully down. Once the push rods start to locate then remove whatever you have been using to keep them apart and hope!!

Again a dollop of grease on the top of them helps to keep them in place once they start to locate.

    Best of luck!!

    Thank you for the instruction.
Grease is you best friend. This exact what I tried today and it worked.
Suport the engine on the workbench with the push rod tube perfect VERTICAL. I hold this with a small rubber band. A small dip of grease on the bottom ends of the push rod, a small dip to stick them on the tube outside wall. Positioning the push rods to the correct location.( inlet/outlet). Slide some foam between the rocker and valve stem top to hold them full up. Check that the push rods sitting correct on the bottom. Now slide the head down by pulling the tube with push rods out a little bit to clear the cooling fins. Slow slide the head down and make sure the rocker locate the posh rod. Leave the foam between the rocker adjuster and valve till yo have the head screwed full down. Now make sure the valves open as there should do. Remove the foam and adjust the clearance.
It took me 20 different try to come up with this way and after I was done, receiving the "GREASE" advice.

Thanks anyway and let's hope that I remember that next time.
