Our pit, Meka, is a mostly normal dog. I say "mostly" because she does all the usual dog things (barks at the letter carrier, barks at strangers walking by the house, chases birds and squirrels, etc., etc.). She has one off-the wall quirk that is just nutty. We don't know why or how it started. She will lay there by us as we watch TV and nothing interests her. However, if any kind of vertical, moving/scrolling text appears on the screen she will jump up and bark at it like crazy!

Anyone else have a dog that has a weird quirk?

We lost Wanda after almost 16 years of her being with us, 2 years ago in December, still miss her, and always will. We used to live in spain, and she got her name, because she wandered through the gate, so we called her Wanda.

It's terribly hard to say goodbye to our furry friends. I've had six boxers in my life and had to say a tearful goodbye to five of them. I'm grateful Ellie is healthy and six years young. Reading this Rainbow Bridge story has always comforted me.

This past Saturday morning was the annual "Blessing of the Animals" at our church. We've attended this on a number of occasions over the years with several of our boxers. Our church less than a mile away and we can walk there on The Loop path that runs along the Rillito River. So off we went with our boxer, Ellie, for a big adventure and a blessing!

The service and blessing were in the sanctuary. It used to all be outdoors and people would bring goats and chickens and donkeys and all manner of beasts!! Ahhh, the good ol' days.....

Each year there's a four-day dog show right near our house at the Rillito Park Racetrack. It's sponsored by two local AKC clubs and a couple of breed-specific local clubs. It's great fun to take Ellie there and wander about looking at all the dogs, owners, vendors, and massive number of RV's parked around the perimeter of the infield. Steve was off fishing with Russell up in the mountains of New Mexico, so I went to the show two of the four days--Friday and Monday. I was able to connect with the person from whom we adopted Ellie when she was 1 1/2 years old. BTW, she will be 6 years old this coming Thursday on Nov. 14th!

Here's Ellie with Gayann, her former owner and Cheri, Gayann's boxer brood partner. They had a couple of dogs being shown this weekend, JD and Delilah.

    IMG_4105.jpeg

JD and his handler, Aaron, are at the front of the line in this photo. JD won Best of Breed and then the Working Group on this day (Friday). :grinning:

There's JD on the left having just been selected Best of Breed.

    IMG_4121.jpeg

There are quite a few vendors and food trucks for the four days of the show, too. Here's Ellie trying to decide which toy her momma is going to buy for her. ;)

In another part of the vendor booth..... :joy:

    Screenshot 2025-11-11 at 11.15.58 AM.png

And another. I think Ellie could walk right underneath this big boy!

    Screenshot 2025-11-11 at 11.16.47 AM.png

This was taken yesterday (Monday). This is Gayann with another of her dogs, Stoli. He's a grand champion who is retired from the show ring and just gets to do you-know-what with the bitches now. ;):joy: BTW, Gayann told me that JD stands for Jack Daniels. And then there's Stoli. And she and Cheri co-own a few other dogs with names in that "genre"--Kaluah and Tequila to name a couple. I suggested they use Hendrick's (my favorite gin) for another pooch at some point. :yum

    IMG_4160.jpeg

I took this photo of JD and his handler after he won yet another Best of Breed yesterday!

    IMG_4173.jpeg

And here's Ellie, back at the ranch, all tuckered out but happy with her newly selected toy. :):heart::heart:

Just back from a week in the wilds to save Flora my flatcoat retriever from the stress of the 5th of November fireworks. Terrifying for her and very stressful to me seeing her.

    The "three leg killer".
Last weekend we met with a friend whose cat was hit by a car last year. Due to the accident he lost one of his legs. But this cat was and is still a "killer". Nearly every kind of bird gets in danger when "he" arrives. We had lots of fun with "him". He is called "Findus".;)
