    Hi!
My family and some of my friends have Fodsports FX8 Pro, a Bluetooth helmet intercom from Fodsports. It is a Chinese brand. So far, we are very satisfied with their sound quality and connection stability.

Recently, my friends and I are planning to join with another group to ride together. Some of them have Fodsports M1-S Pro, others have Cardo, Sena intercoms.
We found that Cardo and Sena can be connected, but hard to achieve group communication. Sometimes can only support a 1-to-1 communication.
Maybe they use different tech? Why can't these brands come to an agreement and use the same technology?

From some guff on the interweb

"Bluetooth devices use radio waves to transmit and receive data, and they can be categorized into three main types:
    • Bluetooth 3.0 and 4.0 devices: These devices use the Bluetooth 3.0 and 4.0 protocols, which support a maximum of 7 active connections at the same time.
    • Bluetooth 5.0 devices: These devices use the Bluetooth 5.0 protocol, which supports a maximum of 8 active connections at the same time.
    • Bluetooth mesh devices: These devices use the Bluetooth mesh protocol, which allows for multiple connections with other devices, enabling the creation of a network of devices."

It also doesnt mention the fact at any one time you can only hear one audio souce at a time. Hence if you have comms, satnav and say music all runing at the same time thats why you can lose turn directions if someone talks over it or you can miss some chat if a turn comes up while someone is talking. The cheaper units dont want to invest in mesh technology also it obviously depends what version of bluetooth they use. The cheaper units also tend to have shorter ranges so people tend to be connected at the beginning then drop off and not reconnect.
The cheaper units also have other things missing like noise cancellation from the microphone. If i pair to my mates chinese unit i have to wear ear plugs all the time as i get my own wind noise and also his because his mic picks up the sound and is continually on sending it to me.
Having said that its a flaky process all round. I have a Cardo Packtalk, my friend and my brother in law have chinese amazon specials, we seldom ride as a trio and have never attemped comms. My packtalk will connect to them but only if i use the cardo app on my phone not from the headset alone. With my friend it would remember his unit and connect every time we met up with no input, then having said that all of sudden this year we had so many problems we have given up on comms on our rides. My brother in laws was always hit and miss and a ballache to connect together. Even if we did manage a connection it would drop out if a bird flew between us (exaggeration!) and sometimes reconnect and sometimes not. Then having said that, he bought his units as a pair and if we use his second unit never an issue.
Mostly now, me and my 4 regular co-riders as it were, never even discuss putting on voice comms any more and just ride. Besides wheres the fun in not having an argument if someone takes a wrong turn, takes a different way, stops for fuel without letting you know?? ;)

I asked the Fodsports, the answer is the same: If you pair a Fodsports with a Cardo or Sena, it may not support group communication.
They said, the reason is that different brands may use different Bluetooth chips, and the software written by engineers from different brands may also different. For these reasons, there might be incompatibility problems between different brands. That's why sometimes they cannot support group talk.

Maybe, currently, these brands cannot achieve an agreement and use the same tech.

I have the FX7 and have been using it for about 10 months.
Already used it about 15 times, so far, it makes me satisfied.
I must say, the FX7 is fantastic! Sound quality is excellent, loud enough. Connection is stable and far enough.
Considering its price and performance, it is truly a budget-friendly and worth considering product.

About the FX8 Pro, I have not used it. When I am going to buy from this brand, I chatted with their online sales team, and they told me that the FX8 Pro and FX7 are their flagship products. Both of them can support you listening to music/GPS, and intercom at the same time. But FX7 is newer (wondering why the model number is smaller, but it is newer), and generally a little bit better than the FX8 Pro.

About pairing with different brands, I think you are right.
On one hand, different engineers may write different software.

Anyway, choosing a Fodsports model is worth it. They will not empty your pockets.
