Well it's that time of the year that sadly we have to leave the bike indoors, and take the car. I'm not trying to teach you to suck eggs here, but I've said it before, and I'll say it again, don't forget to clean your windscreen before you set off.

Just seen my post above, what the hell did I post it here for. Oh well must have been a senior moment. 16.gif
Well I've just watched all 6 episodes of American Primeval, bloody hell if you watch it, you'll see the Osmond's in a different light.
But ,VERY good none the less.

And today's film was - Here. The new Tom Hanks movie is filmed from a single camera point in the front room of a family home and jumps between different eras and families.... even some scenes from before the house was built.

It's from the same team as Forrest Gump so if you didn't like that, or something like A Man Called Otto, you might not like this. Critics have been iffy about it, viewers seem to be a bit kinder. I enjoyed it.

It certainly balanced out watching Civil War last night..... although I enjoyed that too!!

Watched The Shining again the other night, for only the second time. Saw it first just last year. Don't know why I've missed it for all this time given its reputation.
I didn't rate it that much. I did enjoy it more on second viewing but I don't think it deserves its cult status. It's good and some of the techniques were no doubt ground-breaking at the time, but (like most of Stephen King's books IMO) it's not the strongest storyline.
Jack Nicholson just plays Jack Nicholson, but Shelly Duvall is superb. her performance makes the film in my view. And she was perfectly cast.
I'm glad I gave it a second chance but it's not one for my DVD library.

Not a film but started watching The Blacklist while I'm working away from home to entertain me in the evenings, most of the way through series one atm and has kept my attention so far. Holding off on a verdict for a while yet ;)

Watched all series of the Blacklist last year. We binge watched it all the way, some great but weird characters, many good storylines and a few not so but it was entertaining viewing.

Steve and I really enjoyed The Blacklist, @Helmut Visor. I think there are 8 season in all. By the last season we were a bit tired of it but still glued to each episode. :joy: Mostly it was because there were a couple of characters who grated on us a bit. But overall we thought it was a good mystery--my favorite genre.

A couple of recent cinema visits -

Flight Risk - think ConAir, prisoner being transferred on a plane (Cesna 208B apparently - it's small) with Mark Wahlberg hamming it up as a baddie! Harmless fun!

September 5 - 1972 Munich Olympics hostage situation from the point of view of the broadcasters in the studio. Did they even think about hostage takers being able to see on TV what was happening outside of the apartment? 50 odd years ago..... Israelis and Palestinians..... and so it goes on..... pretty well told with the new footage being slightly "grainy" to blend with historic film.

Watched Threads, BBC iplayer, the other night, considering its 40 odd years since it was made it certainly holds up.
    quote from BFI
in the UK it was never publicly aired and remained banned for almost 20 years, deemed “too horrifying for the medium of broadcast” and possessing the potential to cause “considerable distress and a defeatist attitude amongst the mass TV-watching public”.

Rewatched The Illusionist last night as I hadn’t seen it for ages. Really good movie with Edward Norton, Paul Giamatti and Rufus Sewell all at the absolute top of their game!

We just finished binging all six episodes of American Primeval over two nights. We couldn't look away--sort of like driving past an accident on the freeway. Anyway, this American Western definitely doesn't make that time period (mid-1800's) seem like a bed of roses. It's based on the Mountain Meadows Massacre. I'm sure there was some poetic license taken, but the TV show did make me interested in reading the book.

    Same here- F1
Storyline is a bit predictable but the action as you might expect is top form
Helps if you follow F1 otherwise you'll miss the cameo appearances (good old Günther)
Best bit is the opening sequence at 24 hours race at Daytona with Brad Pitt taking his stint at midnight to Led Zeppelin's Whole lotta love

Wet day, cheap tickets on a Monday, so went to see Jurassic World- Rebirth.

I've always enjoyed these (daft) movies, but this one really felt like the 'greatest hits' album with the only addition being Scarlett Johanssen's heaving bosom!!

It was OK, but it has mostly been done before..... maybe they've now done about all they can with this story.

    Oh dear moaning again.

Free tickets to War of the Roses, thank goodness they were free, rubbish film, a waste of two good actors, and another case of dropping the f-bomb, and various other mucky comments, when they couldn't think of anything funny!

Yes, there was a f*****g lot of swearing!!

Edit - the new film is just called The Roses - still rubbish!
