As the title says she is home had some fun and games at the KAT office as the cashier made a cock up and charged me for a car registration the lady who processes the paperwork rejected it as it's a motocycle NOT and car so back and forth we went until the cashier finally got it right and I got a refund as bikes cost less the register than cars.

So back the Valantines place to fit the plate then geared up started her up and got on board pulled in clutch and into first and she lurched forwards and stalled. Darned clutch plates had stuck together so we had a fun few minutes freeing them off asked where lights were as we have to have lights on here cheched indicators ...................... oh dammit the are just on not flashing. Turns out she has been stood unused for abit over 3 years!!!!!!

Well rode it home like that and now have most of the fairing and trim off only right side is still on and while removing the rear trim noticed that the rear light was really wobbly the right side stud was missing so for now I have drilled the rubber moulding and put a self tapping screw in to hold it will look for a good used rear light at a later date. Have posted a question in the tech section about the indicators.

I am ashamed to say that I fialed to notice the the front left indicator had been glued back together and there is a scrape on the fairing must have had my blinkers on :worried: :pensive: or been partly asleep  .

Anyway I have to say that I really prefer riding the Trophy to my Monster it just feels right it leans into curves much more naturally and like I hoped is far more comfortable though I do have a patch of vibration between 2500-3000 something is rattling maybe not fastened properly? Will looking to see if I can find what that is. I have to get some degreaser/tar remover as we had to come through some roadworks and they had just sprayed tar down and of course the wheels flung it all over it's on the oil cooler and radiator so got to clean that off. Photos to follow.

Good for you. I have done a couple of fly and rides and always had a lot of fun with those. It is always better when you get a bike you really enjoy.
Keep riding and tell us more about it.

Thank you my nephew found the relay and it's buggered one terminal is blackened and it actually rattles. I bought a relay tester a little while back and it does 4 & 5 pin relays of course the flasher relay is 3 pin am going to see ow much one is locally although it now has working flashers as I stole a relay off the MGF that I am breaking up but it flashes a little fast but hey they flash!!!

I will also be changing the brake and clutch fluid and most likey the coolant as we have no idea how old it is.

    And I dropped it ..................................

Went into town to try and get a correct relay tried a place called Interparts in Gorna pulled up outside their garage/load bay bit which has a bit of a camber started the back her up to turn ready to leave and she simply lent over too far and I could not get her upright so down we went. Of course it broke the left front indicator ................... the only that was already glued back together. There were two chaps and a nice young lady to witness this and they asked if I was allright so after taken gloves, helmet and of course glasses off I asked if they would assist me in lifting the bike up. No problem thye said.

Of course they cannot help with the relay as they are trade only I suspected as much if I had just gone to the usual factors ths would not have happened and of course the factors cannt find the correct 10w relay only 21w ones so am ordering in off ebay. Went across the street to another small factors and asked for plastic glue no sorry but try next door. Never been in this one it's a nice little hardware store with helpful people bought some 2 pack epoxy and a "super glue" that has a spray activator so tried that and have glued light back together the casing has stuck it's the pillar for the screw in the orange lens that being a pain.

@Plezier Glad you got there. The flashers probably just need a new flasher unit. Not a big problem. And the others you mentioned are minor and i am sure you will get it sorted soon. Also check the indicator switch itself.

@Plezier Should have read the topic before i started replying I found that if your indicators flash to quick change two bulbs they are usually 21 watt try 23 on two of them.

Well it just goes to show that I have to get fitter and build my strength back up the last year or so has really sapped my strength and allowed my fitness level to drop a lot. The relay currently on her is from a MGF and it's not the correct rating but it works until I can get one in from the UK so rather than wrestle it inot it's correct spot I just cable tied it to the speedo cable in the meantime I will try you idea of getting some bigger wattage bulbs if I can and put them in the rear ones and see it it helps..

Oh and it looks like I may have to adjust the gear lever as it's suddenly difficult to locate neutral. Also since the battery was disconnected the clock has stopped and will not start up again the adjustement buttons do not do anything will have to have a loook under te seat again and make sure there is not somthing amiss there.

Ahhh well I am old so they suit me and I grew up on old British iron until 79 when bought a new T140E then back to old British iron three years later when scum bags stole the T140E some years later picked up an 83 Honda FB750 DOHC and built a streetfighter out of it that was hte last bike until I got back into them last year after a 20+ years lay off plus modern bikes look pretty shitty to me even the Triumph Twins look fat and bloated Triumphs were always known for being lean. I remember a bike magazine decrying the T140 becasue ut only had a single disc up front when nearly all the Japs had twin disc set ups yet the T140 easily kept up or even outbraked them in tests weighing a lot less 424lbs wet, full tank which in UK spec is 4 1/4 imp gallons.

I also have old cars like my 1993 TVR 4.3l Chimaera and 1999 MGF.

This Trophy has been stood for over 3 years so there are going to be niggles to sort out from lack of use. Just changed and flushed the clutch fluid will do fornt brake once I get some new cross head screw bits to fit my impact driver.................. yep one screw is that tight. Have found relay on the dreaded bay of E it will take a couple of weeks to get here along with a set of vacuum guages so can check carb balance going to town this afternoon to see about coolant as we do not know when it was changed last just going through it all to bring it up to spec as you do. With only 39,000km on the clock it should have a long life ahead.

Be aware that you will want a "JIS" bit - not just a Phillips. They're different.

That's a very good looking Trophy - unusual to see one in all original trim - even the brake discs are OEM on it. You'll have some difficulty sourcing new parts - most have been discontinued now and it's a case of finding good used original where and when you can or using repro where necessary. First ports of call might be .....

I have several types of cross points but they are all too small for my impact driver but will be going into the city in the next few days and will pick some up then. Oh yes have already discovered the lack of parts as I need a front left indicator as it was glued together and the left side fairing is now scuffed up and indicator in many pieces as we went down on the side at 0mph trying to back up outside a motor factors where I asked about the flasher relay only to told they only deal with trade outlets.

I have the left side off right now as was changing the coolant this is what came out:-

    IMG_20250606_173107.jpg

No that is not oil but the coolant that came out of the system........ Just how long has it been in there? We know for sure it's over 3 years because to bike ahs not moved/ been used for that long it's slightly worrying though good job I got the seller to do the oil and oil filter along with the air filter at least we know thoseare good.

    IMG_20250606_172944.jpg

Flushed the system several times with clean water and after a couple of flushes it cam through pretty clean however flushing out the expansion tank was a right pain took about 7 flushes using the jet setting on the garden hose

    IMG_20250606_183016_hdr.jpg

I used my Woodside vaccum pump to get the filthy liquid out of the expansion tank and kept doing it untilit got most of the sludge out of the bottom. Ideally would have taken the naxk out but the retaining bolt is just spinnomg and not undoing. This is the coolant am using:-

    IMG_20250606_183152_hdr.jpg

Certainly not cheap that's for sure. It's also certain now that whoever owned this bike before did not keep up with the servicing and am wondering if I have bought myself trouble?

@Plezier No i think you have a good one there. And you have rode it so you would know if it is not as should be. Go out there and have a great time. All the little bits you can do as you go along.

It's the vibration at certain revs and load that is bothering me have tried tapping on the exhaust with rubber hammer and cannot find any rattles there might be a littl bit from oil cooler now wondering if it could be fairing?

I don't know enough about these engines so need to look them up could it be cam chain? though at only 39,000km any cam chain should not be worn out at least that is my feeling.

@Plezier Yes see where you are coming from. But all those bike do suffer from a little vibration. Some cam chain tensioners do stick and need to be unstuck. What i did is take the tensioner out and free it of and lightly oil it. Ten i put the bike in a high gear remove the plugs and spin the rear wheel backwards to take up any looseness. Works for me. The fairings i use a bit of plain silicon sealant on the joints and screw fixings again works for me. But you are doing great.

I am fitting a cheap pair of indicators to the front I bought them to replace the Ducatis as it has aftermarkets ones fitted and I lost one the rear ones lens so bought a replacment set of 4 and have fitted 2 to the rear will leave the fronts for now and use the other 2 on the Triummph for now. It will be 3 weeks probably before the correct type arrive from the UK these are the black Suzuki AY50 rear ones will have to find somewhere that can match the paint colour so can paint them oh and get some plastic primer to get the paint to stay on them.

I am learning about the bike as I go and will get there eventually just need to keep the modding devil at bay!

@Plezier An indicator is a indicator if it flashes and does what you want it to do then you have had a result.

Nice looking bike, I like the colour. Not such nice looking coolant!
With regards to the wobbly rear light, they are held on by three isolating rubber bushes and on mine they have come away from the studs on two. It's a simple replacement of the bushes but triumph wants nearly a tenner for each bush so I still haven't replace mine, just stuck it back with some rubber glue!
You can find the info here
