Wondered if any one has found the same fault as i did today with the wiring around the head stock of their speed 400's. Cleaning my bike today i spotted the sheaf protecting the wiring split at the head stock area. thumbnail 400.jpg

That's reminiscent of the problem on the earlier Street Twins where the cables rubbed as you turned the handle bars. In the case of the Street Twins there was a recall fix, which from memory was a plastic cable tidy. From the picture it looks like a kink in the sheath is making it rub?

If you turn the handlebars left I’ll wager the cut line on the sheathing lines up with the edge of the tank and that’s what’s cutting in

That's really not good enough, especially as Triumph have form with this problem on the 'Street' range of Bonnevilles. Am I right in thinking this is a new bike? If so, I'd be telling both the dealer and Triumph directly about this and asking what they will do about it. I'd also add that you know that Triumph have had this issue with other models.

Yes @RevPaul It is booked in at Bulldog Triumph well after talking to them today they said get the bike to them so they can access it for warranty work. I did talk to Triumph UK and said if it is not fixed satisfactorily i will reject it and claim for money back via a small claims. Funny i had mailed Bulldog last Friday and ten minutes after speaking to Triumph they contacted me. Yes it is a late twenty four bike and just nearing nine hundred miles. And like people have said i am pretty hacked of that Triumph have not sorted this problem.

Hi there I'm fairly new to to Forum and returning to riding after many years away & two Triumphs have my interest one of which is the Speed 400 which on the one hand gets universally great write ups re handling / fun / looks BUT some really worrying faults that seem not be isolated ,namely engine cutting out, gears locking up and the kill switch operating on its own! So before I committed thought I would drop a line to a Glasgow dealer (who I believe has a good reputation) to ask for some clarification. Perhaps I was naive expecting them to answer but I had hoped. Why would I spend good money ( despite it being good value) if the bike is dangerously flawed - you would think Truimph themselves would address the issue. I am dissapointedbecause I really would like to buy one !

    Dear West Coast Triumph Team,

I hope this finds you well.

I'm 69 and looking to return to motorcycling after many years away from the saddle. The Speed 400 has really caught my eye - its styling & performance reviews, are what I'm after. It feels like the perfect companion for rediscovering the joy of riding.

That said, I've come across quite a few reports from riders around the world mentioning issues such as gearbox lockups, difficulty engaging first gear, and occasional engine shutdowns -particularly during downshifting or deceleration.

I'm sure you're aware of these discussions, and I’d be grateful to hear your perspective.

Have Triumph officially diagnosed the root causes of these problems? And more importantly, are there confirmed fixes now in place - whether through software updates, mechanical adjustments, or revised components?

I'd love to feel confident about the bike before committing, and your insight would mean a great deal. I'm not looking for anything formal - just a candid view from a trusted dealer.
