Looked at a 2001 Triumph ST 955i this afternoon and when I checked the tyres both being Pirelli Angel ones they were dated 2012 & 2014 both had plenty of wear left but they seem a bit long in the tooth to me.

    Opinions? Thoughts?

On a bike you should not ride tyres which are older than 5 years!!!
It is dangerous. You play with your life when you use older ones. They may look fine, but the grip changes and you can not trust on their behavior on different kind of street surfaces!
You should spend the additional money for new tyres after your bike decision! ;)

Change them - they’ll be rock hard (comparatively speaking) now and offer limited grip

My ZZR, which now covers very few miles, has front and rear tyres marked 3420 and 3320 which will make them 5 years old around August this year. The front was fitted in March 21 and is about 2/3 worn but the rear was fitted much later, possibly late 2022, was one of the last Pilot Road 2CT's available has done around 1000m. I'll probably change the front this year and and keep the rear. How and where the bike is stored can affect tyre life . Kept outside in extremes of temperature and weather accelerates ageing.
A bit of googling brings up an industry standard life of 6 years from DOM which can be extended a little with correct storage.
Tyres 11 and 12 years old are definitely out.

I was think along the same lines and in fact changed to front tyre on the Ducati Monster I bought as though it has decent tread it was dated 2009 the rear was bald in the middle so I bought a pair on Dunlop tyres that I am not so happy with they are useless on grass and any mud you can forget getting any grip at all and we do not have any roadway to the gates of the property so have to ride across grass and mud for about 100m then it's a loose stone track/roadway into the village proper they ain't much cop on that either especially after a heavy rain has losened it up. Shame as I always like Dunlops and was very happy with the TT100 tyres and the Avon Roadrunners.

I should get shares in some tyre companies at this rate as have a car that needs perfectly good looking tyres replacing due to age they are 2016 and 2017 on it it's been in storage since 2019 due to regitration hassles it confused the people at KAT as it does not appear in their computer system never having been imported here before and seems it's the only one in the country as we had other things more important to get done it's was parked up will see if we can get the registration sorted later this year or maybe next.

Thnk you that is what I was thinking and of course have no idea as to how it was stored in the past but as it came from Switzerland we can be sure it had seen some cold temps and as it's been here in Bulgaria since last September he said so it's seen some heat I think we were still getting 40 degrees of heat last September though it's inside a garage unheated and uncooled though this last winter was fairly mild I don't think we got much lower than -10 with very little snow.

My thoughts exactly and that is why I checked the ages of them!

Now with the taxes and registration fees a pair of new tyres will add about 2000 lev to the price which puts this one beyond my alloted budget. Yep went and checked Pirelli or Continental tyres would be 600-800 per set.
