Is It Necessary To Soak New Motorcycle Clutch Plates In Oil Before Installation?

    I’ve heard that soaking new Motorcycle Clutch Plates in oil before installation is important. Can anyone confirm? I’m doing a full replacement this weekend and don’t want to mess it up.

    Yes it is. you don't want the friction plates to be dry when starting the bike up after installation

    @NoahSmith Welcome to the family. Yes do give them a good soak before fitting just helps them to settle in with less friction on that first operation. They quite quickly get to what the bike likes.

    As already said, the plates need to be oiled. They don"t need to be "soaked" for any length of time as they are not porous and will not actually absord the oil but they definately DO need an oil coating.
