I have a 2009 America, and have changed all the main bulbs to LEDs. All working ok except the idiot light on the dash for indicators. Due to the piss poor construction of this light (ie a small bulb pushed in an inacessable rubber holder) it was shorting and making the r/h indicator flash when the l/h one was selected. To remidy this I have disconected the idiot lamp. My question is, Is this an MOT requirment? I still have an audible alarm for the indicators. Any MOT testers out there I would appreciate your advice. Cheers in advance.

Unfortunately I'd have to respectfully disagree @Pegscraper as the " if its fitted, it has to work" mentality applies in my opinion. If the light lense wasn't there i.e. a grommet in its place, then possibly a pass. Think about daytime mot's, as soon as you put one light on the bike, you have crossed over the line.
Well, not necessarily. My 2007 VW has been incorrectly failed because the reversing light doesn't work despite our best efforts. However, reversing lights were not mandatory until September 2009, so on my vehicle the test doesn't need to cover it. Similar situation with high level brake lamps, unless mandatory the benefit of doubt should go the driver. It looks a bit of a moot point, l would imagine a chat with the tester beforehand would be best
@MICK LEONARD As @Eldon said take the holder out and replace with a blanking rubber it should pass as the bleeper takes the place of the light.
Many thanks for the replys on this. Its a grey area and I have just brought some 3mm led lights with inline diods from amazon (still waiting for an invite to bezos yacht) and will try to cobble together an idiot light to fix this. Will post the result.
The problem with that @MightyBoosh is we aren't in a position to argue with the mot tester, are we? I have x2 mot stations that I frequent with various vehicles and I'm on good terms with them, but I don't take the pi55, I think that's the important bit! Regulations are now getting worse than ever for them especially the implication of losing their license on their livelihood, so you have to take that into consideration and have a little understanding from their perspective
I think you're wrong on this point. e.g. if a DPF is fitted before they were mandated it has to work. So I think things like the high level brake light would have to work if it's there regardless of year of manufacture.

"A tell-tale is not needed if a direction indicator on each side of the motorcycle can be seen from the riding position. A direction indicator tell-tale can be audible or visual." I would take from that that the OP's problem is not a fail as he has an audible tell tale.
Hi Martin, many thanks for that link, and it explains exactly what I was asking. So as I have an audible tell tale (even though I can see the indicators from the riding position, as stated earlier up on the guidance) I don't need a visual one. Cheers

Surely an audible indicator on a bike can only be heard when stationary, otherwise it falls into the chocolate teapot category?
Audible indication or not is irrelevant because if the indicators can be seen neither it or the repeater light are required.
No mate, my audible indicator is really loud and can be heard at all speeds your likely to be turning and indicating so no problem. But as pointed out below you can see the indicators from the drivers position so no problem.
