Greetings All, I recently removed the King & Queen seat and passenger backrest from my '012 Bonneville and put the factory original seat back on. Wow! I forgot how hard that seat is, so I'm looking for a similar style comfy alternative. It appears these folks have some possibilities; https://www.saddlemen.com/motorcycle-seats/triumph/americano-cafe-classic https://www.omegaracer.com/triumph-bonneville-custom-seats/ Thoughts? Recommendations? Note that two-up riding is not a requirement. Thanks!
During the time I had Bonnevilles the only seat that I found comfortable was the King and Queen seat. They may be fugly but they are comfy!! I think you will have to go a long way and spend to get a similar level of comfort. But it's all about personal preference so what may be comfy to one will be a pain to others. Best of luck with your quest!
Yeah, I agree with your assessment. I had correspondence today with 'Saddlemen' about their cafe option. It was indicated that it will be "...more comfortable than your stock seat, but it is a short range seat...". Perhaps I'll go ahead with that option and put the K&Q back on for longer distance use. Thanks!
You could have your factory one re-covered with extra padding added if you like the look. I had my Street Triple one done and it made a big difference.
Have you considered getting a gel pad added under the existing cover? I've adapted two previous bikes this way, one of them a '17 T100, and they both went from 60 mins max to all day comfy. Much cheaper than a branded K&Q or similar and you keep the stock look.
I've found that a firm seat such as a broken-in Corbin is better for long distance riding. I've also found that wearing proper leather riding pants increases comfort for almost any seat.
I am using an Omegaracer Neo Tracker with gel inserts. Very good shop, the seat is very high quality but way too hard imho. Maybe I shouldn't have opted for the gel inserts.
@marco & @ÖHS Thought about about Corbin, too. I actually went to their facility many years ago (it's sort of near here), when I was looking for something different for my Sportster. I've decided to put my Triumph King & Queen seat back on (today) and just go with that for a while. Thanks!
I don't know if they still do it, but one day many years ago I dropped in on their Hollister factory without warning and they made a seat for me right on the spot. They even fed me lunch at their little cafe and gave a tour of the factory. I met the lady that stitched it together and they had me test fit the padding to be sure it was right. I've bought several Corbin seats since then - there's one on my Speed Triple and another on my DRZ400.
What don't you like about the Triumph King and Queen seat? I have heard nothing but very good reviews on that seat. Thanks - David
I don't really dislike it. The K & Q seat is certainly comfortable. In that respect, I think it's very reminiscent of what motorcycle manufacturers used to provide. It's really a question about aesthetics. The stock seat provides more of the look I'm after. However, to me, it's like sitting on a fabric covered block of wood.
