Hey guys. My bike is a 2014 Thruxton. Just purchased these bar end mirrors with bar end adapters that were reco'd for them. They look great. http://www.british-customs.com/shop/folding-billet-bar-end-mirror-right-side http://www.british-customs.com/expanding-bar-end-adapter-1-inch Problem is after taking the old mirrors off I noticed that there was a metal insert blocking the inside where the old mirror attached to. 2 things - 1. the adapter will not actually fit in to the bar with this piece in there. 2. even if it would fit inside, the metal insert is too shallow for the adapter that I purchased. I'm looking for recommendations on how to proceed. Is there someway to remove that piece? Are there other adapters that would fit inside the bar as is and still work with the CRG mirrors? Thought I'd try here first. Thanks guys.
is that an allen key hole in it to allow it to be removed? the mirrors look good, better than the originals.
My mate James @James Phillips ordered some similar to those so hopefully he might have some answers They look good btw
No. It's threading for the old mirror. I tried to put the original bolt in and pull it with a wrench but there is no give.
I don't think so. There is no give. I'm not in front of my bike right now otherwise I'd double check... I'm wasting away at my desk job.
I had this on my Bonnie. It's spot welded in place top and bottom - get a big flat blade screwdriver and hammer and give it a sharp tap to shift it. Don't worry if it gets stuck in - one of mine did!
Did you just push the stuck one further down the pipe? Also is the edging around the bar part of that metal piece? Thanks for your reply.
Yes I did - it didn't seem to matter I just made sure it was wedged tight so it couldn't rattle. To be fair it was the first one and I managed to pull the second one out OK. It just left a small burr of metal by each weld, which I rubbed clear with a file.
Any tips for it not to get stuck? Also is the edging in the photo I posted part of that? Does it come out separately once you knock on the big piece further in?
ok he got the crg bar end mirrors and their internal adapters screwed in to the old thread. if they are the same size for your mirror they might be an option.
This is how I installed exactly the same style bar end mirrors on my T100. There was an allen screw holding an alu finishing plug, took the screw out and retained it. Removed the allen screw provided with the mirrors and replaced it with the original allen screw and fitted the mirrors. End of................................ You don't need to remove the insert in the bars, just use it to retain the new mirrors.
Without putting the bar end adapter in? The problem I'm having is the adapters aren't fitting into the bar because of the metal edging around the interior of the bar. I assume this is part of the bigger piece at the back but I'm not positive. See attached image.
silly question.... you have slackened/tightened the screw on the adapter to reduce the circumference?
Do you know what bar end adapters he used? I have the 1inch and the won't squeeze into the bar with the edging that I assume is attached to the metal piece with the the thread further back in the bar. See attatched. I appreciate your help with this.
Yes. For sure. Thanks. Not a silly question. I believe that the piece in the handlebar that the original mirror was threaded to has an edging that is making the interior diameter of the bar smaller.
sorry he cant remember. he says it came with an adjustable mount for other sizes which he didn't use, this implies his bars were smaller than 1 inch!? have you measured the interior diameter of your bars?
OK fellas. Just heard from the good people at British Customs - Great support btw. The person on the original Live Chat when I asked what adapters I needed sold me the wrong ones. Sh!t happens. Just talked to another guy and he said I needed these http://www.british-customs.com/non-hollow-bar-end-mirror-adapter No need to remove or tap out the original threading. I appreciate all of you guys trying to help. Seems like a great community. I'll post pics of my Thruxton when I'm done everything. It's looking great. Cheers.
