Today we had interesting biking conditions. Due to a for three days now lasting storm through the middle of Europe lots of Sahara sand is in the air and everywhere in the landscape. Therefore the light is sometimes reflecting and you think that you are always in a foggy area. The streets are sandy and some parts of them are really slippery. Nevertheless my wife and I did another 4 hours ride. This time we went through our province, Lower Austria, to the neighbouring province called Styria. There we rode on small roads up to one of the biggest alpine pastures in the eastern part of Austria, the Teichalm. In the middle of it you can find a small lake which is surrounded by a wonderful landscape. As always we stopped at a local culinary highlight, at the "Latschenhütte". There we had a typical Austrian dessert, a warm "Topfenstrudel" (curd cheese strudel) with a cup of coffee. Afterwards we did a short walk along the lovely lake and found a giant wooden bull. It's height was about 5 meters! Very impressive. The way down and back home got very dusty. Everywhere and on all surfaces was a thin sand layer. Until Monday we will have no weather change. I think I will get an bedouin soon. In the following some impressions.
Thanks for an interesting ride report, @Markus. What terribly odd weather conditions. Hopefully the sand will be gone soon. That bull statue was certainly impressive! And the dessert looks delicious.
@Sandi T: The ride was really interesting. On some spots it looked like in the area of a desert. The dessert was great.
Thanks for sharing your pictures rather unbelievable that the sand makes it in great quantities all the way to Austria One have to be very careful once sand accumulates on the road
@Armando: It was crazy sometimes. We created dust plumes behind our bikes like riding in open terrain away from paved roads.
What strange conditions Markus, the bull looks pretty relaxed about them though . Lovely photos, as ever.
