Definitely loathe his videos. I can never make it through the waffle to find out what the point is that he's rabbiting on about. You wouldn't care to summarise? Sounds like an email to my local MP once I can work out exactly how to word it once expletives have been removed.
I too really struggle with him; I'm sure there's some good information in there somewhere and I did try to watch it but he waffles so much! So @andypandy at the risk of seeming lazy, please can you give a precis on what we should be concerned about?
Well really I was hoping for other peoples opinions on the proposed legislation as outlined in the video. Was it slewed ? I'm not sure so I wouldn't want to say really. It's just that it mentions things that i've never heard of like having to bring your home upto certain "green energy" standards or face fines or possible prison. Another thing it mentions is because the take up of EV cars is failing, the government is making manufacturers limit the amount of IC cars they can make. It wants EV sales to be 22% next year minimum and that will be increased year on year. There's a lot more to it obviously but it seems the government is keeping things quiet.
So lets stop/limit selling the cheaper IC vehicles and then the electric vehicles will bring more money in, at least via vat in the first place. Electric vehicles being heavier, surely they can be taxed more in the long term. Being a log burner user myself, there has been talks in the past of restrictions or banning of such, is this just due to the Government not getting a slice of the action like the 5 % vat on domestic heating bills? I just see this all as smash and grab for the individuals cash! And don't forget, we all need to jet about the world for meetings on emissions, global warming and future energy ideas Don't get me started on poll tax...... another totally poor value for money bill with yearly cost increases and seemingly yearly reductions in service provided.
It strikes me the Energy Bill is aimed more at securing more reliable, less price volatile energy supplies rather than any clandestine attempt to use the threat of fine or imprison to force people to conform to any set measures. I'm more inclined to believe this than clickbait from some Youtube channel or conspiracy theorist. I've read factsheets from the Gov before, then looked at the data. In general they are focusing on what they want you to think, omit significant portions and skew the final impression. I would rather see the whole bill than rely on their summary. and as it happens I like this youtuber and the same conclusion has been come to on many other channels.
I just got an email from my electricity supplier. Basically the unit (kw/h) price is dropping slightly but the standing charge is going up - again. Its 60p per day now. That's roughly 18 quid a month before you even switch a light on. Robbin' gits.
Our gas and electric prices dropped 3p/Kwh in July but the standing charge (which is for network "maintenance" btw!?) stayed the same. It was in the news last week that the government received no bids from any companies interested in the development of off shore wind farms as they say the unit price for electricity is set too low yet we're being told that wholesale electrification is the answer to the climate "problem". BS.

Energy bills are of interest to everyone, so having a discussion about this is imo is an ok subject for the forum. There are many varied views on the subject which makes for a great debate. My only concern would be that we keep politics out of the debate. I’m with @Pegscraper no banning of babes on bikes
I see Sunak has taken note of the comments on this forum and changed lots of so called "target dates" etc. Unfortunately he still intends to force car manufacturers to produce a minimum 22% of production as EV cars. This percentage will increase year on year. The problem I see with this is, if there is high demand for IC cars but the production isn't there, then prices might shoot up. My hope is that bio-fuels will come to the fore well before 2035.
I believe Hydrogen is the way to go. Unless they can quickly devise a method of recycling the batteries they are currently using to power electric vehicles we are all going to have one hell of a disposal problem.
@johne Do you mean Hydrogen as in gas fuel or in terms of powering electric vehicles? I did some research work on Hydrogen PEM fuel cells ten years, or so, ago but the output isn't great and it has it's own disadvantages, water management and surface area being the main ones. Too dry, rubbish output..... too wet, waterlogged Ambient humidity fluctuations i.e. say Malaysia, add to the complications.
