    Hi All,

    I have a 2007 Triumph Speedmaster 865 Carb.

Sometime ago when I was on a ride, my bike started stuttering, so I thought it probably needs a refuel. The petrol station was nearby, so I thought I should be able to make it. Usually I keep an eye on the trip KM/Miles since last fill up. As you already probably know it does not have an empty tank indicator. Before I was able to make it to the petrol station it was getting worse and I notices smoke coming out from where what I think is the exhaust slip on connection/under my foot area, so I stopped aside and went by foot to the petrol station bought some fuel, brought it back, filled it up, waited for it to completely cool down, fired it up and it seemed to work just fine. I know that I should not have kept on going as soon as it started stuttering.

After a couple of days I noticed that sometimes when I start the bike it does not run smoothly, as if it was choking and some other days it runs as smooth as before this all happened!

I changed the spark plugs, but the issue is not fixed. so I thought maybe some dirt was caught in the fuel system. I was wondering if maybe it is time to change the fuel filter. I assume that the fuel filter is in the tank and it is a similar procedure to the Scrambler / Bonneville video available on Youtube

Basically changing the fuel filter, tank gasket and cleaning, I have the Haynes service & repair manual to also help

    I need your help guys:
    1. Can someone tell me if I am on the right track or should I be doing something else?
    2. I am unable to find the parts online. Can someone tell me the part numbers for both the filter and the gasket?
    3. Should I be checking something else also?
Thanks you very much in advance for any help you can provide.

    Cheers

Have a look on Fowlers site.
    fowlersparts.co.uk
for your bike and look on there for part numbers. If not on there call Fowlers and ask, they are very helpful.
It seems you are on the right path, dirt in the bottom of the tank.
    Good luck

Thanks for the reply, I looked on that website, but I was unable to find anything related to the fuel filter and the required gasket!

I will try to call them.

    Cheers
