When putting my bike back together I noted that the vacuum line to the fuel tap fit pretty loosely. After running around beautifully for a few miles the bike stalled and would only run if the fuel tap is set to prime. I was about to order a rebuild kit, but it occurred to me that the problem might be that loose vacuum line. So my question is.... Could a loose or possible fallen off vacuum line cause the tap to not function and starve the carbs of fuel?

In a word, yes. Vacuum operated fuel taps became quite common back in the good old pre-EFI carb days. A leaky vacuum line could also lean out the fuelling, potentially affecting engine idle.

Also check you haven't kinked the fuel pipe as it can cause a blockage, easy done. Yep I have been there.
