Why have you put stickers on your helmet? I was always taught not to stick anything on as it degrades the shell of the helmet. There are no laws saying we must have stickers on our helmets.

"French legislation states that a motorcycle helmet must have front, rear and side reflective stickers. However, it is the EU Commission’s understanding that this cannot apply retroactively to helmets already in use. As a consequence, foreign motorcycle riders carrying a helmet that doesn’t have these reflective markings cannot be obliged to bring their helmets in to conformity retroactively. Only new helmet types placed on the French market must comply with the new requirements and bear this reflective material."

All new helmets now come with reflective stickers to put on your helmet, whether you chose to put them on is up to you. Personally I didn't

Edit: That may only be French manufactured helmets as mine is a Shark ;)

How would one go on claiming against the French authorities for the damage to the shell caused by putting stickers on the helmet? We’re always told not to stick anything on the shell of the helmet as it damages the shells ability to protect the head.

AFAIK, the issue with sticking things on or painting your helmet largely depends on construction type. Polycarbonate shells are susceptible to degradation and attack from flues or paints.

As they come supplied by the helmet manufacturer I can only guess that they are fine to put on just like the ACU sticker etc that is already on them ;)

Our Shoei helmets bought in UK last year didn't have any stickers included. As you say (and I've read elsewhere) only applies to French locals.

The information I found, quoting the French legalisation. Just that it is a requirement in France, no sub-clause was identified to say UK is exempt. Much as I wasn't exempt from a speeding ticket when previously driving through France or having to pay extra road tax in Switzerland.

There are some people saying that no-one wears them but there is an anti UK feeling around after Brexit. Saves 135 euro fine.

Last year I had an open face helmet delivered from Germany and they included four French compliant stickers with it. But not applied. This helmet will need replacing at the end of this year and the stickers applied are to the same standard as they use the same vinyl stock. I guess I had to weigh the pros and cons and came to my own conclusion.
