Contrary to what people from the rest of this country will tell you, this happens in California from time to time. We are inland from the coast. Currently at 10:30am it is 33Deg.F. and snowing at 3000ft. Elev. I also have a mountain home in the San Bernardino Mountains at 6400+ft. I have not been able to get in there since Jan.13th, due to snow and icing conditions. I can drive to the end of the road, but it is too icy to go the rest of the way on foot. ...J.D.
UPDATE: As of the Sunday night weather report, the community where my cabin is got 71" of snow, just over the weekend ! ! ! YIKES. Not going ride up there anytime soon ...J.D.
Yeh. down here in the valley is not bad. About freezing, and a couple of inches of snow. My other home about an hour drive away got 71" on top of an already existing layer of ice. Three more days of snow predicted. Low 20's. Waiting for the thaw there. ...J.D.
First trip out on the SC this afternoon since last November, lovely weather and seems I'm not too rusty. I went to Bill Smith's in Chester to join my mate Colin getting his brand new BSA Goldstar in classic red and chrome. Lovely little bike, if a little quiet. Colin decided he just didn't trust himself on his very heavy Guzzi California anymore (I suspect it may also have something to do with it being off the road for all of last year's riding season due to a weird electrical fault). He's always been a BSA man and initially was sceptical of some of the design details but he took one for a decent test ride a week or too ago and said he couldn't stop grinning, which as we all know is how we should feel about our bikes. Stopped at the Fourways for a Coffee and a cake, where he observed "I'm going to have to get a scarf" it seems the lack of a Perspex barndoor on the handlebars is revealing all the places where his textile jacket isn't as warm or draft proof as he thought. Stay safe and enjoy the 2023 riding season.
Modified my Street Cup airbox snorkel. For the low amount of HP it puts out, the calculated optimum ID was <30mm. I made it 35mm so "effectively" about 15% less restrictive than the TB. The idea of using a diffuser cone for the outlet comes from Formula SAE racing where they limit HP with a 20mm ID restriction.
Went for a ride on my new 2013 Storm Always wanted one and now the ankle is better and booked for surgery, the opportunity came up. My riding partner updated to a new R3 GT, so I scored his newly serviced/tyred Storm
Yesterday actually. Horrid day that started well and ended less so. Weather much colder and greyer than predicted riding Bike in to Youles Manchester for some work and all good (and free hot chocolate to warm up) when picked up. 16:30 riding home (all motorway) M602 West, to M6 South over Manchester Ship Canal, to M56 West, to get off at J10 for A49 South to home. Rear end becomes uncertain after joining M6 (slow down but don't want to stop on the bridge) by the time I'm on the tight sweeping M56 slip road the bike will hardly lean into turns and speed now just about 45mph, given its rush hour the traffic was very considerate. Those who know the junction I'm describing will know that the slip road I'm on is joined by the slip road with traffic joining from northbound M6 to head west with me on M56, but they're doing 60+mph where I'm doing ~50mph. By now I have to stop on hard shoulder, hazards on, parking light on, climb over safety barrier and ring the AA. Bless them they recognised the danger I was in and had a van with bike trailer with me in about an hour, by which time it was dark. Standing by a motorway in the dark at rush hour in winter is a cold noisy and frightening place to be and I'm just praying no one gets silly and takes out me or my beautiful bike. I can only describe the mechanic as a hero, setting up the trailer, getting my reluctant to move bike (tyre now totally flat) on the trailer, and securing. All just 6 ft from busy three lane traffic with lorries doing 60+mph and cars 70+mph. Eventually home safe and bike in one piece but now I must decide what to do about my tyres. My advice, if you don't have a recovery plan get one, you never know when you'll need it, mine isn't cheap but it does cover my wife and I, our 2 cars and my bike and stuck by a motorway is no good place to be. Stay safe.
Glad you got home safe mate. Your are so right about recovery service. Hope you can sort the tyre without problems.
Took exhausts and X-pipe of the Thruxton in readiness for fitting new 1 piece headers. Does anyone want to buy a Motone X-pipe?
That's turning into a nice project, looking forward to seeing the finished bike. Couldn't help but notice the supply of refreshment on the shelves, is that a clue to the town of your residence? If so I too enjoyed living in "the little town with a big heart" for some 12 or so years.
Thank you @RevPaul , I’m happy with how it’s going so far. Next job is to try and make some new end cans. Won’t be too hasty selling the Weslake Shorty cans just in case my skills don’t stretch that far!! And yes been a Beartown resident for about 14 years. We love it here. Happy to support our local brewery, they do some cracking beers!! I see you’re somewhere somewhere Cheshire, did you move far away?
Just to the other side of the M6 near Northwich, not far from J&S. We too loved living in Beartown but I unfortunately didn't have a bike when I was living there.
Annual MOT test passed this morning and of course DVLA have relieved me of £101 road tax, so the Street triple is road legal again, just in time for the snow to arrive! Lol
