Well I went helmet shopping today, went to a couple stores that had just about every helmet imaginable. I kind had a $500 limit in my mind but would have spent more if a helmet checked all the boxes and fit my oval head well. So what I wanted was a drop down sun visor because I wear glasses and that's just more convenient. It also had to work with my glasses. It had to have the ability for the visor to be cracked open when it's cold to help keep my glasses clear. Pinlock face shield would be a bonus. Ability for a comm system would be cool too. So I tried on a bunch. Funny thing is the one that checked all the boxes was the cheapest one, an hjc. Now I've had a few hjc helmets and they just seem to fit me the best so that seems to have remained the same. I chose an i71 in white since the top of the bonneville tank is white. It was only $229. I did have to order it because they didn't have a white one in stock. I walked around in the store with it for awhile, I should made vroom vroom sounds, lol. It was super comfortable for me. Not the lightest but not horrible either. Only thing I need to figure out now is how to chin mount my gopro. My first new helmet in 20 years.
Hi woodtickgreg, I have a HJC helmet and I have found a chin mount for your helmet https://chinmounts.ca/products/hjc-i70-action-camera-chin-mount?_pos=1&_sid=f28ac4f88&_ss=r They make them for almost all helmets. Not a bad product! Happy trails!
Thanks brother but that mount is for an i70 and mines an i71, they are different. But I did contact that company when I got the helmet. They got back to me and said it's in development and should be available in March or April. I'll wait to get one.
helmets are high right now. my 2010 bell ran out the clock to be legal for racing, and the arai i bought to replace it was over US$600. but i needed snell 2020 and that was what was available.
Got the new chin mount for my gopro, fits perfectly! I thought it was cool that they also give you a adhesive disk with a cord to attach to your camera so than if it does come off you don't loose your camera or destroy it. I think tracks mandate that if you have a camera on your helmet or bike that it has a device like that. Pretty cool I thought. I haven't put that on yet but I will. They do recommend that after you heat up the adhesive with a hair dryer and stick the mount on that you give it 24 hours before you actually use it. I also purchased from them a kit with a bunch of adapters to get the camera mounted perfectly so I can see the screen to see what it is recording.
the safety guys at my race organization forbid modifications to helmets, but are pretty tolerant about gopros. but if they would allow it i know what i would do
That's awesome, It sounds like you had a successful helmet-shopping trip. It's great that the HJC helmet checked all the boxes for you, especially with the drop-down sun visor and compatibility with your glasses. And the fact that it was the cheapest one is a nice bonus. Ordering the white i71 to match your Bonneville tank is a cool choice. Just remember to resist the urge to make vroom sounds too loudly in the store.
This bloke frequents some of the places that I do - I am yet to see him for myself, but he makes their Facebook pages a fair bit!!! (Photo nabbed off a cafe FB page).
