Hello all, Time for a new helmet. Looking at the Shoei RF1400. Wondering if anyone wears one on their T120 or T100 and how they find the performance with the riding position? Some reviews note that the Shoei RF1400 performs best in a slightly 'forward' or tucked position and as the T120 position isn't as upright as an adventure touring bike, I think it could work? I wore one at the dealer for .5 hour and the fit seemed fine for my very intermediate oval head. Nice and snug. No pressure points. I currently have an Arai Defiant-X. But it's now just over five years old so time for a new one. Any suggetions besides the RF1400?
Have you tried the Arai Quantic or Shoei NXR 2. I really liked the Shoei but felt the Arai was a better fit for me. At the time the Shoei genuine visirs were dear vs the genuine arai visors and availability in the UK for Shoei visors was scarse, things might have improved in the last year. Both the NX2 and Quantic are built to the newer 22-06 safety standards. Speaking to staff in the shop 22-06 seems slightly more rigorous although I believe helmets used in moto gp are possibly just as good as the 22-06 standard and may not apply in your part of the world. Apologies I don’t know much about the Shoei RF1400 other than a review I just watched on youtube. Is it designed primarily outside of Europe?
If you're considering Shoei, I have the Shoei GT Air 2 which I love; the fit, comfort (for my head shape) and quality are great. It has a drop down sun visor which I like, which comes low enough that it does not interfere with your vision at all and a "cracked" open setting on the visor which is useful too. The vents and visor are easy to operate whilst riding along. The top vent is perhaps a bit bigger than my Shark was as I do tend to get a few more insect visitors in the Shoei I think.
Thanks. I do like the GT Air 2. One thing about it, though, is the built-in location for the Sena. I have a Cardo Bold and not sure how easy that would be to install on the GT Air 2.
I switched back to Arai a couple of years ago and have the Debut with tinted external pro shade visor. I love the helmet fit, low noise and my Sena 50R fits nice and flush without catching on my jacket when I turn my head.
Yes, same helmet. Not sure if there are some differences due to European vs North American requirements, though. Don't think so ...
I just bought the Scorpion Evo-1400 Air for the second time for my wife and me. We both love the very big visor sight in comparison to all other helmets we ever used and tried. A sun shield and a pin-hole-visor is integrated and the airstream in/through the helmet can be regulated very good. An windshield for the chin is also integrated. The fitting can be regulated by a little air-pump-mechanism, which is also built in. Additionally it has quick rescue release parts in case of an accident.
Hi, @Espanolito. My husband has a Shoei RF1400 and loves it. He rides a Harley Street Glide so an upright riding position. I also wear Shoei's--currently my favorite is my RF-SR which is a fairly simple and somewhat less expensive model. I've had a GT Air and still ride with an RF 1200, too. I like the ease of switching face shields on the RF-SR, the fit (for me), the vent system, and it's actually more quiet than my more expensive RF 1200. Good luck with your new helmet hunt!
Have you considered the Scorpion EXO-ST1400 Carbon Caffeine? Similar to the Shoei GT Air 2, but much cheaper. FortNine has them discounted to CAD 504 now. Also includes a Pinlock plus insert shield as an extra. Lightest helmet at the price, and DOT/ECE.
The reviews are correct in that it does perform best in a slightly "forward" or tucked position, but the T120's riding position should still be comfortable and provide good performance.
